Steve this embarrassing man

Look at what Steve Carell did.
After coming out of the American drama THE OFFICE, in 2005, he joined forces with Apato, who would later be known as the "New Godfather of Comedy", to write and star in The 40 Year-Old Virgin. The movie became the dark horse at the box office that year. Just by looking at the title, you can know how embarrassing STEVE is in the film. The screenwriter was named Apato and STEVE. Apato also became popular as a result.
After successfully entering the big screen as a dark horse at the box office, STEVE starred in another dark horse movie Little Miss Sunshine in 2006. In the movie, STEVE is the GAY who has attempted suicide, with an unshaven face and a weird running posture. But the most important thing is his resentful and helpless eyes, which accurately portrayed a negative image of a loser. The scene where the gas station meets the person I like is even more embarrassing.
After that, STEVE tried two commercial films. One is "Fake Tenjin 2", which was very unsuccessful in 2007; the other is the cartoon Horton Hears a Who in 2008. He just dubbed the latter, but "Fake Tenjin 2" should have given him a big blow. But 2008 is not over yet, he also starred in GET SMART with ANNE HATHAWAY, this spy comedy has mixed reputation, but STEVE still continues his embarrassing role.
Then I saw this movie that didn't seem to be mainly funny anymore.

I heard that BILL MURRAY is the kind of comedian who can make people laugh without making any expressions or actions. But unfortunately, I haven't watched many of his comedies, and I can only see some clues from "Lost in Tokyo". But I saw this potential in STEVE CARELL. In DAN IN REAL LIFE, the screenwriter tailored a lot of interesting embarrassing scenes for him, in order to make the character's encounters closer to the audience's feelings. And STEVE always burst into laughter in these embarrassing scenes. Even if it’s just a very simple scene: before going to bed, the whole family is busy or say good night to each other, washing their faces and brushing their teeth, DAN stands at the door of the bedroom that does not belong to him, and then suddenly, everyone in the family is in a tacit understanding. Close the bedroom door, and only DAN stood there alone and said "good night" to the air at a loss.
Movies are very warm and funny life sketches, which are liked by many audiences. I really envy the big family in the movie. Last year, I went to their relatives to spend Christmas with my friends. Just like the whole family in DAN, everyone rushed to the Pyrenees from all over the country, put aside all the tension and trivialities of city life, reunited with my family, and cooked and washed together in the evening. Bowl, open gifts together, from a 5-year-old boy to a 70-year-old grandmother, sitting together to play killing games, climbing and having a picnic together during the day. I used to enjoy the excitement and joy of reunion with my mother’s family when I was young, but because of the gradual alienation and various conflicts in the future, those so-called relatives have never been seen. Now that everyone is an only child, it’s good to keep in touch with his cousin and cousin. So I want to envy that kind of happiness.
But I still feel that there is something wrong with the ending of the movie. Since DAN is a writer who advocates putting family first, he still hurt his brother in the end. In this way, even the audience is not on DAN's side. How can he resonate and move with the movie if he is not sympathetic? This requires his brothers to forgive DAN like his daughters, to reduce DAN's guilt and let the audience "forgive" DAN. But the movie said that his brother didn't listen to DAN's apology like revenge, and went out with PIGFACE. So in the end, DAN showed up at the entrance of the gym with his three daughters. MARIE smiled and walked off the treadmill, but I was not touched. I also wanted to talk about how MARIE would face DAN's family in the future.
But through this movie, I really like STEVE, who looks very embarrassed.

PS: The first time I used so many "囧" characters, it feels so strange...

Dan in Real Life quotes

  • Marie: [Entering laundry room where is Dan seated on a cot] What was that?

Dan Burns: [rises from the cot] I couldn't... I couldn't stop myself.

Marie: What am I supposed to do now?

Dan Burns: You can't do anything. He's my brother.

Marie: [stifling back tears] Why did you sing for me?... Then?

    Dan Burns: Because I... I'm

    [now shaking his head]

Marie: [reciting passages from Dan's book] Page 92. "Did I just die? Because an angel walked into the room". Page 148... uh..."I'll forgive you your past if you'll forgive me mine.". It seems all his best lines were yours. It's unbearable. I... I can't keep pretending.

    [Marie leaves the laundry room]

  • Dan: [all together in the car] I think your sisters aren't very happy with me.

    Lilly: Duh!

    Dan: Why do you think?

Lilly: You're a good father, but sometimes a bad dad.
