This film is to show the extreme character of the characters, Lula's mother, her lover and killer and so on. During Seiler's escape, sex, violence, a large number of color blocks, flames, etc. are interspersed, symbolizing the theme of "wild at heart". I feel that this is simply an expression of symbolism.
Maybe the films in the early 1990s, judging from the current point of view, are a bit outdated. For example, in the two songs of Elvis Presley, the first Seiler actually sang the entire passage. What's the point? Finally, in order to show that Seiler really wanted to marry Laura, he stood in the car and sang "Love me Tender". It felt like he was watching an opera. It was a bit too formal. And when Seller described his snakeskin jacket, he directly said "it is a symbol of my faith and personality." The snakeskin jacket in the whole article can already represent Thaler's character, and directly speaks out the suspicion of superfluous.
It was the first time I came into contact with David Lynch’s movies. His style is indeed a bit different and never forgets. Cage's performance is also remarkable, so I won't comment on others.
