The first surprise is that Iran is the enemy of the United States. Was this movie filmed in Iran? Would those Iranians be willing to act in American movies?
The second surprise is that Ben Affleck, an American, dares to use the most hated country in the United States as the background of the story. Of course, Hollywood has never been afraid to ridicule the US government. Their self-mockery and criticism of the government are commonly used by Hollywood to please American audiences.
These two are not counted. What is even more surprising is that the US government has approved the release of this sensitive film, and the Oscar judges have also moved the best picture to it. Just think, does China dare to shoot stories about Tibet or the background of 1989? If there is even a little bit of involvement, it will be banned from filming. The zero tolerance for the political stance of films means that China will never be able to make good political films.
Also, for me personally, Life of Pi is the best movie in my opinion, and it's obviously the movie that touches me more. And the story of solving the American hostages has nothing to do with me.
Ben Affleck may be a good director, but I can't appreciate the way he acts. He is always a silent, calm expression, and you rarely see his exaggerated facial expressions, so he is always quiet, restrained, and suppressed performance style.
