The real situation must have been tense, but for commercial reasons, the director went with the traditional last-minute rescue routine. Cross-cut, and some fictional plots that look a bit "dog blood". But the effect is very good.
I think the tension in real events should mainly occur at the psychological level. If the externalization is done, the person concerned may be unable to hold back and be exposed. But so many psychological aspects will definitely affect the rhythm of the film, and it won't be an "action movie" look.
Using real events, documentary style (some of the shots are not sure whether they used the material at the time or the actual shooting in the film. I saw the Ikonoskop 16mm digital camera used in "The Bourne" in the work photos, I think those documentary styles are more Possibly real) established the ambience. After that, anyone and anything in that place is potentially dangerous, and it is believed that it creates a "wild jungle" feeling.
There are no more features in the video technique, and the traditional style is used. Traditional films that are raining more and more now also add a lot of hand-held shots in the middle. This is due to the "new wave". (I think of a gossip. Once, the teacher sighed when commenting on the homework of classmates: If there is no new wave, what would you do... I think it's weird humor.)
The Hollywood part in the middle feels a little out of place. The plot of that part is handled a bit like absurd comedy, which is slightly incompatible with the atmosphere of the whole film (purely personal opinion). Not sure if the whole movie would be better without that part of the adjustment? Or that part of the "serious" point of the pen approach? But I'm sure it must be the director's taste...a little joke about Hollywood.
The performances of the actors in it can only be regarded as quite satisfactory. Xiaoben's face was expressionless from beginning to end... I remember seeing an awards show in Hong Kong many years ago (probably in the 1990s). The two hosts were joking (I forgot who they were), to the effect:
A: I think you are actually the best actor, and you are the best at playing the emperor... give us a horror show.
B's face is expressionless: ...
A: That's great... The landslides don't change color! Show us the panic again...
B-face is expressionless:...
A: It's great... worthy of being the emperor, the tsunami didn't make a sound at the back
...
Just gossip... It's a very nice movie!
