The best Disney in a long time

I'm too lazy to translate one or write a Chinese version of what I wrote on imdb. If you can understand it, just watch it. Anyway, everyone who is watching this movie should be abroad . since this movie just moved me TODAY, I'm still totally out of words to describe it. Maybe I'll come back a few days later and write something when I'm much less in shock

This is Disney at its best. The story is sort of typical for Disney, you know, some invincible power (most likely magical) that almost destroys the world, a reckless and stubborn character who goes through the impossibles and almost get someone killed (usually themselves) along the way, and the forever unchanging theme of love and family.

But Frozen is still one of the best works of Disney. Elsa is the ice-cold queen. And the monster. And the frightened little girl who made one mistake once and gets haunted for the rest of her life. And a person who just loves her sister. Disney has rarely shown this much dynamic in character, and it worked out so well. I almost felt bad that Elsa didn't get a boyfriend in the end too, but I guess being able to accept her powers as a gift and not a curse is enough for her.

"True love" is something that Disney has been exploring in its films forever. Alright, not just Disney. Everything. And it's becoming sort of cliché and boring. I almost rolled my eyes when the film ran into the "we need a kiss from the prince" direction. Seriously? After such a great first half of the movie we have to do all that Snow White / Sleeping Beauty thing? I'm very happy when the movie closed off "true love" with the sisters bonding, since clearly , whatever romance you come up with in a 90 minute cartoon is not gonna come even close to Elsa torturing herself to protect Anna, or Anna traveling through the blizzard to find Elsa.

Seriously, bravo. When I get kids, I'm gonna watch this movie with them. Btw it's kinda funny that both Frozen and Despicable Me 2 gave one of their girls a major "love at first sight" crush, and ended up revealing both the crushes as total assholes. Are all the script writers having problems talking to their 12 year old daughters these days?

By the way Olaf and Sven were super funny and extremely adorable. And they actually played important roles in convincing the characters in the end. I totally loved the minions in Despicable Me, but it never seemed that they had much role other than being cute and funny.

So all in all, this is just a wonderful movie that I would definitely recommend. It's funny, Frozen was actually my "side dish" movie for Hunger Games today, but it was beyond awesome. I almost felt 6 years old and in love with Disney again.

Oh by the way the visuals and the music are just amazing. The songs are beautiful but not at all awkward when you hear them all the time throughout the film. And you absolutely have to see and hear Elsa build that ice castle. I almost can't wait for the DVD to come out
