it's love

On the surface, Drive is a crime movie; in essence, Drive is about love.

Love, violent and tender, revealed to the fullest, making people breathless and heavy on their hearts.

Elements such as coldness, sweetness, violence and tenderness are entangled and turned into a strange and poignant style. The elevator scene in the movie is simply a perfect combination of the above elements, which makes people hold their breaths, and God wins it.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn has extraordinary skills and audacity, and can take such a film that was accidentally reduced to a genre film to another level, allowing the film to break through the limitations of crime.

Drive, with a pun, means both driving and a compulsive state of mind. The male protagonist wears a scorpion's racing jersey from head to tail, which just highlights this pun. The film also brilliantly interprets these two meanings that are closely related in the film.

Drive quotes

  • [first lines]

Driver: [on phone] There's a hundred-thousand streets in this city. You don't need to know the route. You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything happens a minute either side of that and you're on your own. Do you understand?

    [pause]

Driver: Good. And you won't be able to reach me on this phone again.

  • Shannon: [to Driver] A lot of guys mess around with married women, but you're the only one I know who robs a joint just to pay back the husband. Crazy.
