As a '93 film, Groundhog Day was a huge success. Infinite loops have been an enduring branch of the genre in many sci-fi films.
The protagonist, Phil, has a distinct personality: he is self-righteous, self-serving, and humorous, yet has no merit. February 2 was supposed to be an uncommon day in his life. However, an accident occurred. When Phil woke up the next day, the same morning broadcast sound was still in his ear, but he just felt puzzled: it might be a hallucination! But then the third and fourth time it happened on the same day, he finally realized the fact that he was trapped on the second day of February. His mood changed many times with the repetition of the day: from the initial doubts, to the pleasure of being able to do whatever he wanted, to the despair that he could not escape this vicious circle. He knew the names and experiences of everyone in this town, and knew what was going on here every minute and every second. But for others, it's just one small day in the journey of life.
There are two obvious changes: Phil's outlook on love and Phil's outlook on life. Phil is very casual in front of his feelings. When he knew that the days would repeat, he began to talk to different women constantly, and he was able to succeed in the end. But when he found that no matter how many times he repeated it, so that he knew the character and hobbies of the heroine well, the heroine would still give him a slap: "You are an emotional liar." Phil woke up, and since then , Phil really fell in love with the heroine, and this is the biggest turning point of the film.
He began to change towards the partner that the heroine looked forward to: he began to learn piano, learn ice sculpture, be helpful, and be friendly and warm to every stranger. He has become the most popular person in the town. One day in the eyes of others is already 10,000 days, 100,000 days in Phil's eyes... At the end of the film, the bell rang at 6:00 on time, but it was no longer his own. After hearing the morning news that was repeated countless times like a nightmare, the camera moved to when the male and female protagonists ran towards the warm winter sun together, and the film ended. The emotional arrangement can be said to be delicate and natural, and the subject matter can be called outstanding compared to the same period, but the plot is a bit complicated and procrastinated, and the audience's lack of emotional input in the early stage of the film led to frequent urination, and the later stage of the film began to spew out. Okay. As a comedy, with appropriate laughs and thought-provoking at the same time, it is indeed a good movie.
Jumping out of the plot, after reading it, I was thinking: If the male protagonist did not meet the female protagonist, he lived a repeating day, so that he gave up on himself and committed suicide every day. On the real last day, he committed suicide, then there will be no more "Next day". On February 1st, Phil could not have imagined that this new colleague would have a huge impact on his life. It can be said that this time travels through time and space infinitely, pulling out a real ideal life from a boring life.
When a person faces repetition with no end in sight, he really needs courage to face it, because if you do anything, you wake up again and go back to the starting point, so what's the point? Life is meaningful because of the flow of time. Some people may think that it is not bad to live forever, but when you look far away without any expectations, life is better than death and it becomes a clear proposition. To live means to have expectations and hope in your heart. If there is no expectation and hope, you will be a walking dead.
I think Phil is lucky that he has learned from an infinite day what he really wants, his former bastard, and his love. But the reality is that many people can't do these things. With time, the flood and the waves are what many people do all their lives. What is more terrifying than an infinite day is to go into the ground with despair. Phil is redeemed, but cruel Yes, the real time will not wait for you, you can only grasp it by yourself.
Someone asked, what would you do if yesterday had to be repeated countless times?
I just want to answer: "There is no if, time just moves forward."
