"Birdman" was a success and won a very important Oscar. It was perfect. However, the story it tells is not perfect, even heartbreaking.

Throughout the show, no character is perfect.
The main line of the story, Reagan, is an out-of-date star who has played Batman before, but his life achievements are limited to Bi. He wants to revive the country by adapting a drama, but it is difficult; After the divorce, he found that he still loved her; he wanted to be nice to his daughter who was by his side as an assistant, but found that the closer he went, the farther he went, the gap left by his daughter's growth period could never be filled.

Reagan's daughter, Sam, was young and frivolous. She was sent to labor camp for drug use. She hates this kind of life, it's messy, but she can't escape, just like her drug addiction, she wants to quit but can't quit. She loves her father, but just like her father, she doesn't know how to express her love reasonably and let him vent.

The supporting actor Mike has impotence. He has not had sex with his cohabiting girlfriend and supporting actress for a long time, but he has an erection on the stage of the rehearsal of the play. The supporting actress Leslie was also very distressed to see this, and felt a great shame. Life and acting are woven together like a sack, and they can never be separated again.

The producer seems to be the closest person to perfection. He follows the director with no complaints and no regrets. The drama is too deep and hurts himself to be hospitalized, still in the prospect of a talk drama. So, he's not perfect either.

When all these imperfections created a perfect performance for some unknown reason, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and all the praise poured in, but director Reagan chose to end this dream and let everything stay at the moment of glory.

It's not a Happy Ending, and it doesn't matter, because imperfection is perfection.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) quotes

  • Sylvia: You know, just because I didn't like that ridiculous comedy you did with Goldie Hawn did not mean I did not love you. That's what you always do. You confuse love for admiration.

  • Clara: Now, is it true that you've been injecting yourself with semen from baby pigs?

    Riggan: I'm sorry, what?

Clara: As a method of facial rejuvenation.

Riggan: Where did you read that?

Clara: It was tweeted by @prostatewhispers.

    Riggan: No, that's not true.

Clara: I know, but did you do it?

Riggan: No, I didn't do it.

Clara: Okay, then I'll just write that you're denying it.

Riggan: No, don't write anything! Why would you write anything? I didn't... don't write what she said.
