The Hobbit with no head and no tail (spoilers, beware!)

The whole book of "The Hobbit" is only 1/3 of "The Lord of the Rings", and it is also made into a trilogy, and the plot is much thinner, especially the second part, which seems to have no beginning or end.

1 Green and his party were trapped by a giant spider in the dark forest. Bilbo the Snitch used the Lord of the Rings to hide and save the Thirteen Dwarves. The original book also mentioned that it was the forest elves who came to the rescue. Neither the elf prince Xengolas nor the elf princess hunted and killed the orcs who were chasing Green and others.

2 The Dark Forest Elf Kingdom rescued the Green team, and then imprisoned the dwarves. There was the invisible Bilbo Baggins who stole the cell keys and rescued the dwarves. The dwarf escaped from the elf castle by hiding in an empty barrel of wine along the waterway. The barrels drifted downstream, and Bud punted them to rescue them to the valley city under the Lonely Mountain. In the original book, the elves who traded with Riverdale brought them to Riverdale as empty barrels. This provided an emotional basis for Bud to ask Sorin and his gang to share the treasure later.

3 Later, the dragon took revenge on the people of Riverdale and set fire to Riverdale, and was shot by Bard. The mighty Smaug hastily restrained his life. The gold of the Lonely Mountain has become a treasure without the owner. The elf army of the dark forest and the remnant army of Hegu Town headed to the Lonely Mountain to collect the treasure.

Thorin asked for a confrontation between the 500 dwarves of the Iron Hills and the human elves. The Orcs and the Warg joined forces, seized the treasure and took revenge, and surrounded the Lonely Mountain. Dwarves, Humans, and Elves united again against Orcs and Wargs. Triggered the "Battle of the Five Armies". Thorin was killed in battle, and Dann, the leader of the Iron Hills, a distant relative of Thorin, rebuilt the dwarven kingdom under Iruba. Bilbo ceded the 1/14th of the treasure he deserved to Bard, and Prince Bard rebuilt his country. The troll gold that Bilbo took on his way back to Bag End.

The Battle of the Five Armies should be the highlight, but compared to The Lord of the Rings, it's just a skirmish against the evil forces of the East. No epic grand scene but will be exciting enough

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug quotes

  • Bilbo Baggins: [whispering] Everyone, climb into the barrels! Quickly!

Dwalin: Are you mad? They'll find us!

Bilbo Baggins: No, no they won't, I promise you. Please, please, you must trust me.

    [silence]

Thorin Oakenshield: Do as he says.

[They do so, and Bilbo does a head count]

Bofur: [pokes his head out] What do we do now?

[All the dwarves poke their heads out]

    Bilbo Baggins: Hold your breath.

Bofur: Hold me breath? What do you mean...?

[All the dwarves yell as Bilbo pulls the lever opening the trap door, spilling the barrels into the river]

  • Thranduil: You have found a way in. You seek that which would bestow upon you, the right to rule. The King's Jewel. The Arkenstone. It is precious to you beyond measure, I understand that. The gems in the Mountain that I, too, desire... White gems, of pure starlight. I offer you my help. I will let you go, if you but return what is mine.
