Kubrick deeply grasped the relationship between man and the universe.
1968 was the year before the successful Apollo 11 landing on the moon. In this year, human beings have not yet set foot on extraterrestrial planets, and their imaginations have long traveled to the outer world. What exactly is there in outer space? Is it like the search for colonies in the Age of Navigation, with endless spice and gold; or is it like a dark virgin jungle, blocked by the sword of a tribe that suddenly burst out from the silence?
If human beings are arrogant on earth, in "2001 Interstellar Odyssey", under the lens of Kubrick, the unease when facing the unknown and the mystery is the background.
The obsidian crystallized these emotions. Black and shiny, with sharp edges and corners; no words, no imprints, only the setting sun is like blood, half-illuminated from the top. No one knows what obsidian is; but it must not be a god, the kind that looks at the nether world, punishes evil and promotes good, and guides the maze. The stone is more like a collection of my childhood fears of the night. Lying alone in bed, they often run out of bed crying in fright: "Mom and Dad, the moon is staring at me, it's scary!"
