The night before yesterday dedicated 3 hours and 20 minutes to American director Coppola's epic war film "Apocalypse Now". He rose to fame with The Godfather, and in fact the film he dreamed of making was Apocalypse Now. When I didn't have the conditions to make this film, I first shot "The Godfather", which accidentally created a classic. It also created conditions for himself to shoot "Apocalypse Now".
"Apocalypse Now" this time I watched the "Rebirth" version released in 2000, the longest version. I probably watched other versions of this film around 2000. This time I rewatched Apocalypse Now because this film is a milestone in the field of film sound effects. Yes, I watched the whole movie again to appreciate the sound effects.
This is a majestic film. no doubt. However, I also see a problem with it. Coppola is too full of stories. Hollywood-style neatness in the United States is like an excellent composition for elementary school students. I am afraid that the audience will not understand it, and I am afraid that the audience will not be attracted. And Coppola's reflection on the Vietnam War was too strong, and he wanted to plug in some constructs to support his thinking. The whole film allows you to continuously see the loss and absurdity of the United States in this war. The cells of each image exist to allow you to see this. Neat and clumsy.
The film should stimulate the audience's sensibility through the tension of images and texts, allowing the audience to feel many things themselves, rather than the director pointing out those things directly to the audience. For fear that the audience would not understand, some directors also pointed it out very hard.
This is LOW. Even if your video production is unprecedented.
Not out of craftsmanship, Coppola.
Compared to this, Hong Sang-soo, who is confusing or boring, is much more advanced.
