I was peeling shrimp as I watched these "shrimp men" squirming and popping. . .

At the beginning and end of the film, the film echoes Wikus' naivety and joy and excitement when he was first appointed to this "sacred" job, as well as his happiness when he sees his wife as an angel and hope, and the loneliness and helplessness that follows. It forms a strong contrast with the tragic realm, which makes people sigh infinitely. And because of the lack of human nature, we can feel very happy when we see the infected Wikus and the aliens swarming human beings together. The film also alludes to the apartheid policy of South Africa.
