You Live Twice

After reading it, I pulled the progress bar to watch the episode I liked again. After the end, there were a few babbling words, which I didn't quite understand. I vaguely heard the sentence You live twice, which was used as the topic.

Choose life, choose work, choose lover, choose friend. How do you choose? I choose not to choose.

At the beginning of the film, Mark said "I choose not to choose", so he used drugs, sex, and friends to numb himself. It was an attitude of passive resistance, and it was the creed on which I lived throughout my adolescence. To this day, I still think that this kind of dazed confusion is good, and I have never regretted the so-called opportunities missed by indulging in it. Confusion is like a ghost wandering in life, which can only be eased and cannot be eliminated. It sprouts in the abyss of the soul during adolescence, and in the following life it comes repeatedly like reincarnation.

Losing dazedness is a more terrifying thing than dazedness, because dazedness breeds the vitality of being a person and the characteristics of being an individual. Those who escape the confusion choose to devote themselves to the safety of custom, escape freedom, choose to adhere to the values of society, and escape the possibility of self; the road of freedom and possibility is full of dangers, which may not lead to success, but must lead to worth. It is not a complete rebellion or absolute denial, but a mockery and a conscious choice - this is precisely the attitude towards life seriously.

Confusion makes people confront the nihilistic nature of life. Different cultures have their own ways of easing, smoking, alcohol, drugs, sex, rock music, extreme sports, pulp fiction, but no matter how exciting it is, it is only temporary. The beat generation is always on the way, is the pursuit of wandering the real need of the soul, or is it some kind of self-proclaimed desire for performance in order to be independent? We can't stop here forever and rely on stimulation to ease the pain. It has to be faced, solved, and grown.

Stopping growth is a scarier thing than growing, because life is too long. Because we seek stimulation, we long for happiness more. Stay at home and wait for the rabbit, happiness will not knock on the door. The pursuit of happiness requires a heart as strong as steel, reason and wisdom, technology and ability, action and reflection, progress and growth. And growing up means betraying or even killing part of your past self. This must not be a happy thing, like sitting in a room, looking at each other, like a judge, carefully choosing who to sentence to death, with a reprieve, and then executing it mercilessly like an executioner.

I want to move forward and choose life. Choose a job, choose a friend, choose a big TV, choose health insurance. Live your life and look forward until the day you die.

At the end of the film, Mark carried the money and the package and moved forward against the sun. He betrayed his friends in the tumultuous years and was buried with a part of him from the past. Being dazed is the starting point of independence, and choosing to live is more courageous than indulging in daze. This is not a form of grown-up cynicism. Because at the end of day, it's such a blessing to be alive as a human being.
