This kind of story is not new, you can guess the end after reading the beginning. And the ending is really close to what I thought. After all kinds of hardships, the handsome protagonist developed an antiviral serum, the serum was sent to a safe area, and the world might be saved.
The film's story frame, plot, and narration have nothing to do with the old and new, and the only significant thing is Will Smith's performance in it.
He was the only person in the whole of New York who was not infected, the only survivor, and was accompanied by only one dog. And this loyal friend also left him with the development of the plot. Much of the story is devoted to his life alone and with a dog. Repetitive, monotonous, tedious, mechanical. It's just inertia that drives his day-to-day life. A watch reminds him of the time, it's time to get up, it's time to eat, it's time to exercise, it's time to go out looking for survivors, it's time to go to bed... He chats with dogs, he picks up plastic beauties, he talks to himself, he One person directs a one-man show.
In my mind, Will has always been a guy who depends on his appearance. I never thought that he could play such a role, without too much exaggerated actions, without too much dialogue, just relying on his eyes, expressions, and even his voice, he would stand alone. The loneliness, despair, and fear of the only survivor who is alone in the world are so realistic. In one of the stories, he and the dog went for food, and the dog chased a sheep and ran into a dark warehouse. Darkness is Night Devil's territory. Although he is afraid and frightened, he still carries a gun and ventures alone to save his friend who can't speak for the sake of the old dog. The camera was completely dark for nearly half a minute at this time, and only Will's rapid breathing sounded, making people depressed, dull, nervous, and eager to know what was going to happen next.
The first half is great, but the back is abrupt. The sudden appearance of women and children, as well as the last refuge on the mountain, all seem to end the story in haste. And the last paragraph, like a bullet point, is too thin and pale.
If that fellow wants to see it, it is recommended to just watch Will's performance in front of him.
