Blade Runner's Metaphor for Humanity

I watched the 1982 movie "Blade Runner" in the evening. The rhythm of the whole film was slow and the atmosphere was depressing, so that it was regarded as a bad film by many people, but behind this, there was a very profound reflection. On the surface, it reflects that when artificial intelligence has emotions, which of artificial intelligence and human is more like a human being. In fact, through in-depth analysis, you can see the metaphors about religion. The artificial intelligence fled back to the earth just because the time was approaching and wanted to find a way to prolong life. Just like us humans, Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit to produce wisdom and emotion, Life was limited by God and expelled from the Garden of Eden. Since then, death has become the ultimate fear of human beings. Humans have tried their best to fight against death, thus achieving human civilization. With the awakening and progress of human beings, human beings have questions about God in their hearts , God-killing has become the subconscious deep in the human heart, so the artificial intelligence in the play kills its maker. In the latter part of the film, the artificial intelligence accepted his own death and said a shocking last word. Everything will eventually disappear in the torrent of time. What is the meaning of life? As the female artificial intelligence in the film said before, "I think, therefore I am", does the emotional artificial intelligence exist as a machine or a human when thinking about life? And finally, when the protagonist sees the unicorn origami in his dream again, is he really human? Of course, the biggest cross-generational significance of the film is that it pioneered the cyberpunk worldview on the big screen, which is another thought-provoking theme.

Blade Runner quotes

  • Deckard: Is this a real snake?

Zhora: Of course it's not real. You think I would be working in a place like this if I could afford a real snake?

  • Rachael: Mr. Deckard, Dr. Elden Tyrell.

Tyrell: Demonstrate it. I want to see it work.

    Deckard: Where is the subject?

Tyrell: I want to see it work on a person. I want to see a negative before I provide you with a positive.

    Deckard: What's that gonna prove?

    Tyrell: Indulge me.

    Deckard: On you?

    Tyrell: Try her.
