It's a romantic French film, which I define as the unspoken art of living. And this art is to see life as an adventure, every day we are looking for treasure. This treasure is hidden in the seemingly boring and vulgar, cookie-cutter days. Although the sense of boredom fills every minute and every second of life, in this seemingly worthless life, there are many wonderful pleasures. This is the romance of the Bishop Church.
Although the heroine Emily was born in a family with a depressed atmosphere, her parents are serious and a little overprotective of her. This so-called caring led her to spend a lonely childhood without even a single friend, and this loneliness also penetrated into her bones.
But Emily is a girl who likes fantasy by nature. What amazes me even more is that even after adulthood, she still retains her childish side, and she has not lost the most precious curiosity and childishness. For adults, maturity often means becoming gradually numb and closed. And only in the eyes of children, the world is a paradise worth exploring, and it just gives Emily a treasure: a pure heart.
The treasure in life has always been around us, but the most important thing is to take that step and go out to find it, discover it, and have it. But for loners, the hardest part is just taking that step. Humans are fragile, the naked heart beating in the chest, it can be easily injured. Just like the glass man in the movie, he stayed at home for 20 years, copying the painting "Luncheon on a Boat" all day at home.
Are his bones really as fragile as glass? I guess maybe not. Maybe he was hurt when he was young, or because he was timid, he missed a fateful love and never recovered? This is all my guess, anything is possible. But in his later years, Emily bursts into his life and infuses him with new courage. And he is also at a critical moment, encouraging Emily to pursue true love.
Emily took a crucial step by chance, and her life has been rewritten ever since. We didn't have the courage to take that step, perhaps because we're used to our current life. Every day at three o’clock, the line flows between rental houses, subway stations, and workplaces. Every day is a repetition of yesterday, and sometimes you even suspect that time has gone backwards? Why is today the same as yesterday? Such a life is not unbearable, but secretly it feels like a waste of life. Always fantasize about "living elsewhere", but always step into the river of yesterday.
When Emily stumbled across the "magic" box, she recognized it as a child's treasure through the battered, dusty metal casing. Perhaps most people will feel very disappointed: why not a heavy box of gold coins? But a useless toy? They would just throw it in the trash, but not Angel Emily. Because the world she sees is different from others, she can see the essence of things through the turbulent phenomena. Knowing that childhood was condensed in this box, she decided to return the box to its owner.
Maybe at some point in your life, you have also encountered your own treasure, do you have the courage to seize it? Maybe it's the girl you always meet on the subway, maybe it's a dream job, or maybe it's a chance to live in another city. Even in the eyes of outsiders, there is nothing unique about it at all. But if you choose to take that step, maybe the future will all change.
She stumbles across Nino in the crowd, the boy she was meant to be. But in the eyes of outsiders, Nino is a freak, but Emily can see at a glance that he is the same. Treasure Girl meets Freak Boy, what a match made in heaven. Love is the aesthetics of life and the cure for loneliness. From now on, these two hearts will never be alone again.
I think Emily's casting is perfect, because Audrey Tatu is not a silly and sweet appearance, there is a hint of cunning in her eyes, which is a unique temperament. While a lot of people hate this, I think it fits right in with the story. In the movie, Emily often imagines herself as Zorro, who punishes evil and promotes good. She is not a silly elder sister in essence, but an angel of wisdom.
I wish I could have the wisdom and courage to see life as an adventure and harvest my treasures.
