The first time I saw this movie was in my freshman elective course. I didn't watch it in its entirety, but I watched it twice. Later, if I want to read it completely, I will first make up for the history of World War II. I don’t know much about history.
For such a film, the director won, and I, who was still a film student, could not think rationally. How to analyze, how to write film reviews, how to grasp the director's psychology, how to talk about music, how to talk about pictures. I forgot how I wrote 1,500 words in a cluttered homework. About the film, only the story is left.
Those who can't perceive the existence of the director, can't feel the director's gestures, everything is displayed without modification, from the close-up pictures to the 1+1>2 pictorial montage, Spearman's eyes are the director's eyes It is also the eyes that the director gives to the audience, witnessing everything that happens in the Jewish quarter, witnessing the life and death that happens every moment, witnessing the brutality and killing of human beings against the same kind, which is too real and too outrageous.
The colors are dignified, with a gray texture. Only when the war ended and Spearman returned to the piano and played the "Brilliant Grand Polonaise" did the picture gradually change from oppressive and gloomy gray to rich and bright colors. The transformation is an extremely vivid expression of the tranquility after people are freed from the threat of death and regain their freedom.
The sound in the film does not appear out of thin air. Polanski's choice of Chopin's music as the film's music is also original. Sound is also very important to the art of film and television. When we see that the space has sound, we admit it is real. The sound can give the space specific depth and breadth, and can make the audience have a spatial illusion. (This seems to contradict what I just said about "My 11" without music. There is no way. Wang Xiaoshuai is a director with a very personal style. Besides, I am talking about the sound, not just the music.) Chopin is a great Polish nation. The composer is a famous patriot in the history of music, in line with the times, choosing his music as the theme is the director's calm cry.
War is inhumane, just like "The Fifth Element" Lilu learns the letter "War" beginning with "W" and tears, naked killing will always make people sad and trembling but unable to cry.
But after all, it's the past, it's just movies, it's just past history, but fortunately human nature is still there. (Ghostlin 2012-6-25)
