If Sorin is not the king,
if there is no national hatred and family hatred ,
if there is no grievances in the rivers and lakes
, if you do not carry such a heavy burden,
maybe you can live happily and happily,

but you are the king,
then I will accompany you to the end This journey

This article is based on the film version of Thorin only, because the novel is not the same as the film.

I forgot where I saw the report. There are many "shortcomings" in the novel, but the changes were made in the movie, which increased the contradiction of the character, so we finally saw such a Sorin in the first part.

Thorin is the king of the dwarves, remember his appearance? The sound of the knock on the door was already full of weight, and the noisy dwarves fell silent all of a sudden. After opening the door and entering, you can see two junior dwarves on the right bending down and bowing to Sorin.

Facing Bilbo, the hobbit they met for the first time, Thorin's look and tone, "more like a fruit seller" This is a Thorin-style joke, which is rare, maybe this time Come on.

There was a conversation between Bahrain and Sorin, and Bahrain was discouraged and gave up hope for the trip. Sorin looked tenderly at the brother who had been on fire with him countless times. His expression was as if he was gently stroking Balin's head, and he comforted him and said, "Don't be afraid, my brother." Sorin said: We have the greatest warriors, and they are all loyal... They have absolute trust in these 12 people, absolute care and absolute pride for the 12 people.
Afterwards, Bahrain persuaded: You have led everyone to re-establish the homeland in the blue mountain, and you have enough food and clothing, so you don't have to take risks to return to your hometown.
Sorin's expression suddenly became solemn, and he suddenly recalled the hatred of the country and the family. This was a responsibility he could never let go, and he had to take risks. This is the stubbornness and dignity of the dwarves, their longing for their homeland and their once prosperous life, to go home no matter how difficult it is.

That night, after hearing the cry of the orcs, kili and Bilbo were "joking" and were reprimanded by Thorin, and Balin came out to tell the story. When Sorin turned around, everyone woke up and looked at Sorin with admiration, and everyone was willing to throw their heads and blood for Sorin. Sorin looked at everyone. At first, he didn't expect everyone to wake up and look at him with such trust. Later, he looked at everyone tenderly, as if saying: It's good to have you.

Thorin smiles for the first time (this smile means grinning. Sorin smiled before, but it was not easy to notice, just like when Bilbo changed his mind to follow the line, Sorin looked back and saw the joy or satisfaction on his face lol) It was Bilbo stalling for time, the three trolls turned to stone, everyone was rescued, and Thorin smiled happily.

The second smile is the ending. After being rescued by the Eagle King, Thorin hugged Bilbo after he was "resurrected", a smile of sincere gratitude to him.

At other times, Thorin's laughter was always hidden. Even at the end, looking out over the Lonely Mountain, Thorin just smiled and said to Bilbo with a hopeful smile: This is our home.

Then talk about Thorin to the 12 brothers. These 12 brothers are not all related by blood, but they are all dwarves, and as a king, he is responsible for them.

It can be seen in the movie that Thorin is the lightest sleeper every night when everyone else is snoring, even though a vigil has been sent in turn.
For example, when Thorin woke up the first time he heard the cry of an orc, of course he criticized Kili.
In the back in the cave, Bilbo waited for everyone to fall asleep and wanted to leave, and the conversation with bofur (the night shift), Sorin was also awake and heard. Of course, Bilbo's unthinking words stabbed Bofur and Thorin's heart, because in his heart, it was his fault and his responsibility that everyone was sleeping like this, without a home.
It's no wonder that when everyone escaped from the Goblin Cave and Bilbo got lost, Thorin said angrily that Bilbo escaped and escaped home.

Thorin as leader, as king.
When it came time to rush, he dashed in front of him - when he met three trolls, Bilbo was caught, and the dwarves rushed out of the bushes, and Thorin was the first.
When it came time to get in the back, he was the last one—when surrounded by wolves, Thorin stood at the entrance, making sure that everyone got in safely, and then he went in by himself.
At the end, everyone was trapped in the tree that was about to fall. Sorin, as the king, stood up and singled out the former enemy. (Although he is no longer as brave as he used to be, he has inspired others to fight in the final battle, not for the homeland, but for Sorin!!) In

the novel, Sorin's ending. . . Not to mention.
In the movie, from the changes to the novel Sorin, can I expect the ending of Sorin in the movie to be better? Yep. . . Glory point?

1. Love money?
There is a scene in the introduction to the kingdom of dwarves at the beginning: the king is indulging in the golden treasure in his eyes, and in the corner Thorin watches faintly, slowly retreating into the dark. ——Could it be that: Sorin's thoughts on "dwarves love money and money", Sorin knows that he has the nature of dwarves to love money, but he also knows that greed for gold will bring bad results, which is also his From what I have personally experienced, this is the biggest contradiction in Thorin.

In the first part, when everyone entered the troll's cave, the dwarves were very happy when they saw the treasure (the nature of the dwarves to love wealth), and they buried it and waited to pick it up in the future. Devalin glanced at them sideways, presumably thinking: these children are rare and strange.
And Thorin found something useful—a sword. I don't know if this was deliberately handled to make Thorin different from the dwarves? Or is there not enough space to simplify it? Or maybe Thorin, like Dwarin, has seen the world, and these treasures are invisible? Or before Sorin's heavy duty, first find something useful? ...

I don't know what will happen to Sorin when he faces the treasure at the back of the movie?
However, in an interview with RA, he said: Compared with the room full of gold, Thorin is more concerned about the diamond, the heart of the mountain, the protector of the dwarves. This fits with the novel.
so...the back of the movie is really hard to guess and hard to guess.

2. Stubborn?
The stubbornness of the dwarves is driving the dried tofu crazy. But Sorin was stubborn, but he also compromised.
Bringing the powerless Bilbo, this is a compromise on the dry tofu (although "the stubbornness of the dry tofu" and the "two people secretly reached an agreement regardless of Bilbo's life and death")
and it is for the siege in the city. At the entrance, although Thorin guessed that the dried tofu did it on purpose, he had no choice but to enter Rivendell.
The biggest compromise is probably to show the map to Elrond, the elf king, and Balin is on the side to stop it, but in order to complete the great cause, Sorin compromised.
Of course, there is also a stubborn side of Sorin in the movie, but then again, since Sorin will compromise, will "compromise" help a little in the end of the journey?

This journey was doomed to Thorin, because it was a responsibility he was born with, there was no chance of refusal, and if he didn't do it, who would?
No matter how dangerous and difficult the future is, others can give up, but he cannot. He is different from other dwarves, with rare smiles, rare jokes and slapsticks, solemn expressions, and even singing is so solemn, with heavy responsibilities and heavy burdens.

But Thorin was not crushed, which was the good side of the dwarves, unyielding and tenacious.
After so many years of dwarves wandering around, Thorin took them to rebuild their homeland (see Balin and Thorin's conversation), but he never forgot his own home.
When the plan to restore the homeland was restarted, because of Sorin, everyone believed that it would be possible. In turn, the 12 brothers' support and loyalty to Sorin gave Sorin more courage. Without such support, this plan would not be easy. (Of course, Dried Tofu and Bilbo also contributed.)

Compared with the novel, Thorin in the film is richer, and there is a good side and a bad side. As RA said when talking about the role he played: To be a good person, you must discover his shortcomings, and to be a bad person, you must find his advantages. So prefer the movie's Sorin.

The first part of the journey is over, but then "Can the dragon be defeated?" "Will the property on the other side repeat the same mistakes?" These Thorin had no clue.
According to reports, in the second film Thorin will refuse fili and kili to continue their journey, because he is really uncertain about dealing with the dragon, and he does not want to watch these two children die. This emotional description for Sorin, who has been secretly expressing concern, seems to be able to foresee the final tragic and solemn.

Sorin in the movie, under the excavation and interpretation of the director, screenwriter and RA, is colorful, multi-faceted and three-dimensional. Really hope that the final movie will give Sorin a "good" ending.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey quotes

  • Bilbo Baggins: I have... I have never used a sword in my life.

Gandalf: And I hope you never have to. But if you do, remember this: true courage is about knowing not when to take a life, but when to spare one.

  • Dori: Mr. Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?

Gandalf: It is raining, Master dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done. If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard.

    Bilbo Baggins: Are there any?

    Gandalf: What?

    Bilbo Baggins: Other wizards?

Gandalf: There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman the White. And then there are the two Blue Wizards... You know, I've quite forgotten their names.

    Bilbo Baggins: And the fifth?

Gandalf: Well, that would be Radagast the Brown.

Bilbo Baggins: Is he a great wizard, or is he more like you?

Gandalf: Well, I think he is a very great wizard... in his own way. He's a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals for others. He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands to the East, and a good thing too. For always evil will look to find a foothold in this world.
