Anyway, I've watched The Shining twice, and to be honest, I didn't think it was a horror movie whether it was the first time or the second time. (Although the soundtrack is great and adds to the atmosphere of the film, it's not scary enough.)
1: What exactly is "The Shining"?
This question is relatively easy, and I believe everyone can answer it. I personally think "The Shining" is: hallucinations caused by schizophrenia + sixth sense. The movie tells us this when danny and the black chef first meet. The black chef told danny that he and he had this ability. "You don't have to open your mouth to talk to your grandmother when you are a child" "I can see things that others can't see." . . . . "In short, hallucinations and sixth sense.
2: Where did "The Shining" come from?
I have said before that "The Shining" is: hallucinations caused by schizophrenia + sixth sense. So people with "The Shining" should have hallucinations + sixth sense caused by schizophrenia. First, look at Danny. At the beginning of the film, Danny's mother talked to the doctor about how Danny was very uncomfortable with the school's collective life when he first started school. If a person cannot integrate into the group well at a very young age, it is easy for the person to feel lonely, and the prevalence of mental illness will also increase. Freud referred to the "reverse form" in his "Theory of Psychological Defense Mechanisms". If you have seen "A Beautiful Mind", it will be easier to understand this movie. In "A Beautiful Mind", the mathematical genius Nash became a schizophrenic because of this "reverse form". Nash doesn't like to be in contact with others, his social skills are almost 0, and he hides in the apartment for a long time to do his mathematical analysis alone. Over time, Nash's heart feels more and more lonely. At this time, the role of "reverse form" also occurs. When Nash felt extremely lonely, he was reluctant to go out to communicate with others, and his heart was extremely painful, so under the effect of "reverse form", Nash began to have hallucinations. He saw a very friendly roommate in the apartment, and he could talk to him and share his inner pain, but it was just an illusion. This hallucination is exactly what Nash desires.
Environmental factors of "The Shining"
We're going to look back at danny as well. Because Danny was withdrawn as a child, Danny was prone to hallucinations under the influence of "reverse form". As for the black chef, it might be easy to overlook the deeper meaning of what he said. He said, "I didn't have to open my mouth when I was talking to my grandmother when I was a kid." What does that mean, just to tell us that he also has "The Shining"? So why not say he was talking to his parents or talking to a closer friend? How about talking to your grandmother who has a generation gap? The reason is that the director wants to tell us: this black chef, like danny, his Shining is also caused by an unhappy childhood. I don't know the specific reason for this, maybe because of my parents, maybe because of an accident. So the "Shining" of black chefs is also a function of "reverse form". Finally, let's look at jack. The film does not directly say that Jack also has Shining, it just shows the step by step of Jack going crazy in that mysterious hotel. But we can still find some clues in his words. Jack taught in a school before, and only had time to work as a guard in a hotel during the holidays. This seems reasonable, but don't forget the line in the movie "Hotels close for 5 months in winter!" Ask: Which school has a 5-month vacation in winter? "But Jack happily accepted the job as a caretaker, saying that he just had time to devote himself to writing. What does that mean? Jack is telling us: "I don't want to go to school anymore!" "Why? It's very likely that Jack's relationship with his colleagues at school was not well handled, and his work was unpleasant, so he quit! Also, in the movie, it is mentioned that Jack's drinking and hurting Danny, before a married man returns home. Going out to get drunk and in a very bad mood is most likely the reason for work. Therefore, Jack's psychology is also problematic, the "reverse form" works again, and Jack also has "Shining"
. genetic factors
Is "The Shining" hereditary? It's not hard to find jack and danny; both black chefs and grandmothers are closely related, and they both have "The Shining". Then we will naturally think that "The Shining" can be inherited? This shouldn't be a problem, of course. The first aspect of "The Shining": "schizophrenia-induced hallucinations" is easily explained. But what about the second dimension: the "sixth sense"? I think there are still many people who doubt whether the sixth sense really exists. So we must first explain that the sixth sense is very present, and everyone has it. The BBC made a psychological short film, and a firefighter in the film confirmed it during a firefighting process. It was a fire that didn't look very big, nothing compared to how dangerous some fires are. Firefighters seized the opportunity to rush into the fire, wanting to put it out immediately. But the firefighter outside the fire felt that something was wrong, but he didn't know what was wrong, but he felt bad and felt that something bad was about to happen. He immediately asked all the firefighters in the fire scene to come out. The firefighters in the fire scene were very puzzled. He clearly had the fire under control and was about to put it out. Why should we go out? When the firefighters all came out of the fire, it exploded inside! Afterwards, a psychologist explained that there is a special area in the front of the human brain dedicated to storing some information. When some familiar scenes appear, that area of your brain will make analysis. , and it's quick to see what the difference is between them. When the firefighter outside the fire scene saw the fire scene, his brain immediately analyzed that this fire was different from the previous one. When the firefighter didn't know this, he only had a bad psychological feeling, which is " The sixth sense", in fact, we often have this feeling in our life! "Psychologists have also confirmed that some people's psychological feelings can be inherited, but the difference is in the degree of heredity. The authoritative textbook "Psychology and Life" mentions: the inheritance of people's feelings of happiness. The level of happiness can be passed on to you! So, I think "The Shining" has something to do with heredity! Danny had a premonition that something bad was going to happen before going to the hotel, Tony said not to go to the hotel, and then Seeing the scene of blood flow like a long river in the hotel, this is danny's sixth sense at work. Later, when danny and mother were walking through the maze, jack saw them in front of the maze model in the hotel, and they The voice of speaking, this is jack The sixth sense is at work. Later, black chefs have a hunch that something bad will happen and go to them to find them. It is also the function of the sixth sense.
Therefore, "Shining" is produced by the combined action of nature and nurture, and each of us has a second level of "Shining".
3: Mist
This film is indeed not scary, but it is definitely suspenseful, because the director has created too much fog for us.
The movie tells us soon after, that the hotel was built on an Indian tomb, and was attacked by the Indians when it was still being built. Later, Indian-style decoration appeared in the hotel. Moreover, the former hotel guard became a murderer after coming to this hotel. So it's easy to think that this is because the Indians' souls are at work. If it is because of the ghosts of the Indians, why do they only appear when the hotel is closed, and where do they go when so many people harm them? Besides, the only people who saw the so-called "ghosts" in the hotel were Jack and Danny who had "The Shining". Why didn't Danny's mother run into the undead? The last point, I think if the undead exists, then why does the director spend so much effort to lay the groundwork ahead? Don't forget what's the director's name? Would he make a horror movie like this? Therefore, the "Indian spirit of the dead" is unreliable. It's all hallucinations, the hallucinations caused by the psychological "reverse form" of an environment of extreme loneliness. This is also the most important of the many mists created by the director.
Does what danny says about tony has anything to do with recurring twins? At first, I thought they were the same person. But after thinking about it, I immediately denied it. First of all, tony is one person, but the pair of female twins are two people, even if they are twins, they will always be called tony, right? Second, tony is supposed to be a boy's name, but the twins are girls. Therefore, I judge that Tony has nothing to do with them, but they are all hallucinations caused by Danny's "Shining" effect.
Regarding the black and white photo at the end of the film in 1921, the director once again set a trap, we will ask what is going on? How is it related to 1921? The appearance of a photo and the development of the previous story can prove each other's falsehood, but I have enough reasons to believe that what happened before is true, that photo is fake, it is just the director deliberately fooling us, You must know that as a big director, it will be very uncomfortable in my heart to be completely understood by such a movie!
In the end, who opened the iron door and let out the crazy jack? I think most agree it's danny. But why did he release a murderous demon that would put his own life in danger? There is only one answer, "The Shining" once again showed its great power! "The Shining" is no longer a "reverse form" of simple psychological effects, and has reached a stage with self-destructive tendencies.
As for the movie about the golden romm and the things in room 237 are their hallucinations, there is no other explanation!
4: What is the director going to tell us?
The main reason why it's not a horror movie for me is because the director's intention is not on it at all. If I want to say that its horror is special, I think it can only come from: the fact that the people who are the closest to us day and night have turned into murderous monsters who want to kill themselves, which is indeed more disturbing than those supernatural factors. We are afraid.
But have you paid attention to the hotel carpet: at first, it was like two different paths crossed at one point, which is an obvious hint: danny and mother may be killed by jack like the former guard's family, which is called the same goal! But at the point of intersection, the two paths staggered again: they would have ended differently, and they did. So what is the director trying to tell us? It's not difficult to answer, why didn't danny and mother die? That's because of the love and bravery of my mom, and the sacrifice of the black chef! Therefore, the director wants to tell us that the tragedy of "The Shining" is more caused by the lack of mutual care in this society. People are not living for individuals, we should think about others.
