I found out that the heroine is actually Kate Winslet (the heroine of "Titanic"), I didn't recognize it when I first watched it; there was Kirsten Dunst ("Spider-Man" series), and Spider-Man had not yet had a sequel; Elijah Wood (Frodo in "The Lord of the Rings"), the second time I saw it, I only found it familiar, and I found out after checking it. Both Kate and Elijah played very different characters from what I remembered. And then there's Jim Carrey, who I don't know if it's the only non-comedy he's ever done - that's what he seemed to be watching, at least for him.
IMDB is currently ranked 48, which is a very good result. I also saw everyone's high evaluation, but I can't recall it, so I watched it again.
It's a good story, and it's remarkable. The director's technique is also just right, and the editing is excellent. The film's leading actor, director and screenwriter were all nominated for Saturn Awards, but they won only one award that year - Best Science Fiction. Well, it's kind of sci-fi, but I don't think it's a sci-fi movie, not at all. At the Oscars that same year, the film was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and nominated for Best Actress - Kate Winslet appears to have been nominated for several awards for this film.
Whether the pain between two people can be solved by forgetting, or whether it can be forgotten at all, is a difficult question. It's like the end of the film doesn't even want to give an answer. Having a second chance doesn't mean they will be happy ever after. There will always be unsatisfactory things in life, and how to deal with them properly rather than avoid them is what we should seriously think about.
