The house flies away, love still stays

Sitting in the back row of the cinema is a father and daughter. After the opening of the film, the little daughter kept laughing, but at the end, she kept asking her father: Dad, where did the little boy at the beginning go? Dad, who is the grandma in this photo? Dad repeated it over and over again: it was the little boy and the little girl at the beginning, they were grown and old, and the little girl was old enough to die.

"Flying Home" takes the adventure of the elderly and children in South America as the main line of the story, so as to make all the children on the summer vacation happy for 90 minutes. But parents who accompany their children to the cinema see the love of their life, which includes memories, longings, and insights. This is the beauty of Pixar animation. It allows children and adults to have their own way. Generally speaking, it is a fun story, but there are always parts that are too deep for children to understand. Parents have to explain and sigh silently in their hearts. Family Story is loved by young and old alike. No wonder every Pixar animation has an astonishingly high box office.

The reason why the child can't make out the boy at the beginning and the grandma in the picture is because there is a flashback of several minutes shortly after the beginning. There is no dialogue in this paragraph, showing the whole process of the little boy Carl and the little girl Ellie falling in love, getting married, staying together, and getting old. The sorrows and sorrows that intersect in life, the stay of dreams and the passing of years are so condensed in just a few minutes, how can children understand? This flashback ends with Ellie's death, and Carl begins a sentimental life of loneliness. Ellie's photos are hung on the wall, and the room is full of Ellie's familiar atmosphere. So old Carl became a "nail house", desperate to keep the old house. This episode of demolition and anti-demolition is probably the one that resonates most with Chinese audiences.

The person I love the most is gone, so I hope to keep in touch with her through some external things. This is a common human nature. This connection includes old houses, old photos, and yesterday's dream that Carl and Ellie did together when they were children: to go to South America to find Paradise Falls together. But until time took away the body of the lover, this dream never started to come true. In loneliness and reminiscence, Carl finally made up his mind: this is the beginning to pursue his dream, even if his bones are weakened, even if he can only be alone. Let thousands of balloons take this old house that holds Ellie's soul and float to the paradise waterfall in your dreams.

And so the adventure begins, and this long stretch follows the old path of Hollywood adventure films. A child, a giant bird and a docile dog joined one after another, and the journey became lively, with dangers and difficulties one after another, but they were all overcome and resolved one by one. Finally, the destination finally arrived. The kids had a great time laughing throughout this long segment, and the 3D animations made them even more amazed and entertained. But Pixar did not forget another emotional clue, and the old Karl's mental journey continued. The old house is getting more and more dilapidated, heavy and precarious during the adventure. Old Carl is almost crazy with heartache. He can't accept the destruction of the house, which is almost equivalent to watching Ellie die again. At this moment, he turned to the picture book that Ellie left behind, and it painted what Ellie wanted to do when she was a young girl. At the beginning, it was "Paradise Falls"; Old Carl then turned to the back of the picture book and saw nothing. It is a photo that records the countless happy moments of the two of them over the decades. After flipping through the photo, we saw that old Carl emptied all the things in the house, and later he even watched the house float into the distance, and he stood on the ground and shrugged and said: It's just a house.

What a drastic change in conception, why didn't old Carl no longer remember the things in the house? Why are you willing to let the house leave you? What did the photo remind him of?

It's just the good old days gone by. Since Ellie has pasted these photos so carefully, since each of these photos is so happy and beautiful, what else is there for Carl to take as a souvenir. Ellie's gone, and this house, this photo, and Paradise Falls don't really matter anymore. Although the best is in the past, it will always be frozen in the torrent of time, and will leave indistinct fragments in memory. In this comparison, external things are actually nothing. Although the dream of exploring South America did not come true while Ellie was alive, Carl knew that Ellie still had a happy life. That's enough, old Carl doesn't need to regret, and he doesn't need to take risks with a lot of age and broken bones. The dilapidated house soared upwards, but old Carl let go of his ties. What makes our life complete may not be the realization of our dreams, but the warmth that always accompanies us.
