"Goodfellas" is a classic gangster movie. It expresses the "career", personal growth and, finally, social trends of a lonely teenager in a city. The structure of the film has changed from the classic gangster film. The first third of the film uses flashbacks to look back at how Henry Hill went from a child to a robber who grew up seeing rich, comfortable, no one dared to bully, and who had power over many weak . Some critics believe that Henry as a child in the film stands behind the glass and looks enviously at the robber in the distance, which is the gaze of the audience watching robber films for decades. The young Henry reveals the contradiction of violent capture but at the same time bullying the soft and fearing the hard. Wish is the deep psychological plot of the audience watching robber films. Later, Henry got his wish and became a robber, and climbed to a high position in the robber society with violence and courage. But he broke the rules of his gang to sell drugs, and was finally targeted by the police. He had to choose to be a tainted witness for the police. Unlike the previous narrative mode, Henry was not killed by the police or gangsters when he fell from the peak of success. The film does not end immediately, but shows the difficulty and anxiety of his later attempts to live a civilian life. In this way, the film has a less romantic and heroic ending than previous gangster films.
