A gangster epic of little American street people, group portrait.

Adapted from real events, it records Henry's life from childhood to adulthood in a documentary style (guided by Henry's narration from beginning to end, the whole film can be regarded as his memories), mixed with the life trajectories of other gang members, to the audience It fully shows a realistic picture of underworld life (which is also the biggest reason why this film has become a classic). Wanton and madness, beating, smashing, looting, burning, and having fun all day long; selfish and brutal, can shoot and kill for the smallest things; betrayal is taboo and normal, as long as you threaten me, whether intentional or not, I can say Kill you with a smile.

All relationships are built on money, women, and face, and everyone is rushing to it. Once desires are too easy to achieve, people will be swallowed up by bigger desires.

Impressed by one of the long shots in the film - Henry taking his new girlfriend into the restaurant through the back door in order to avoid the line. The camera followed him and traveled through many spaces, taking pictures in one go. The superiority and privilege of Henry as a gang member is vividly displayed, and it also reflects Henry's vanity and show off as a gang member.
