I've seen Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Angry Bull, and this thief. His film style is refreshing: it feels like an outsider telling you something he's experienced firsthand. The language of the narrative is eloquent, and the dialogue of life is integrated into the lines, and the audience cannot predict which place will usher in a climax.
The way of narration is very humorous. Listening to the narration of the narration and watching the transformation of the screen, the audience is unknowingly taken into the world of the gangster.
The lesson to be concluded is that there is no good end to the underworld.
But Scorsese seemed to want to say that scumbags are sometimes darker than gangsters.
Robert De Niro doesn't count as the protagonist. He has lost his youthful bravery and sturdiness. In this film, his calm side is shown, giving way to Ray Liotta's wonderful performance. De Niro affirmed Lyotard at the beginning, saying that he understood two important principles of the underworld: not betraying friends; not talking nonsense, and keeping secrets. These two items were overturned in the final judgment.
When we lament the quick money and power of the gangsters, what we are embarrassed about is the shortness of this privilege. The life of finding an organization is desirable, but it is a symptom of weakness and a yearning for privilege. When the ascending channel can only be achieved through the normal struggle of individuals, it is undoubtedly meaningless compared to gang members. Petty theft, of course, can win temporary pleasure and satisfaction, such as theft of Air France cargo; but touching the red line of drug trafficking is indeed intolerable for the Federation.
This is a biography, I don't know how educational it is, but which unique Italian gangster's dream experience is still worthy of our relish.
