"I think we'll be fine here, Lyon."
Matilda planted orchids in the grass. The final shot slowly pans, gradually losing sight of the orchid and of Matilda. A low male voice sounded. The camera looks at the quiet New York city under the blue sky in the distance. I think they will have a new beginning under that huge green shade.
I can't remember how many times I watched this movie. At the end, the familiar shots and sounds always make my heart churn for a long time. I suppressed myself from crying, but tears lingered in my eyes. I think I'm finally going to write something about it.
Leon is a lonely and unpretentious killer. He had lost the woman he loved the most. He raised an orchid, only drank milk, did not kill women and children, and was used to sitting on the sofa to sleep. He wouldn't even lie to the hotel receptionist. He is illiterate. His life is simple and pure. until he met Matilda.
And Matilda is a problem girl. She once asked doubtfully, "Is life always so difficult, or is it only in childhood?" She lost her family and her beloved brother. She seeks Leon's shelter for survival and revenge.
Gradually, they intervene in each other's lives.
Matilda said, "I think I'm in love with you, Leon."
"You've never loved, how do you know love?"
"I can feel..."
"Where?"
"In my stomach... … used to have a throbbing pain in my stomach, but now it's gone and it's warm."
"Congratulations on your stomach. But that doesn't mean anything."
Leon had never had a good night's sleep, he felt no peace. But unknowingly gave Matilda a strong sense of security. He has a favorite orchid, and he wipes the leaves of the orchid every day to let it bask in the sun. He promised to teach Matilda to do "cleaning work," but he never let her actually kill. He lives with her, and he stretches his fingers but can't say a word while playing a guessing game. He was so naive. He was so cold. In his character, love and indifference coexist.
But if he hadn't met Matilda, he might never have felt that intense and fiery love again. He finally had a peaceful sleep, and finally felt the joy of life again. He ends by saying, "You're not going to lose me. You gave me a taste of life. I want to be happy. Sleep in bed with roots. You'll never be alone again, Matilda."
Last minute , when he handed the dynamite Griphook tied to himself to Matilda's enemy. I know he has only love in his heart.
Matilda, you cried all the way. You have lost the person you love twice. You say to Leon at the end, "I love you, Leon". Your moving face and hot tears in the silent film melted the hearts of countless people.
You know what, Matilda. In fact, you are his favorite orchid.
