the most beautiful decision

EB White has a collection of letters with his wife, "The Most Beautiful Decision", which I wanted to buy and read, but it was never settled. When I revisited the Titanic, I found that what really moved me was not the pursuit of freedom and the courage to be together regardless of the world, but the decisions people made at every moment when they almost got disconnected. These decisions don't guarantee a good outcome at that moment or convince everyone that they're right, but in fact, they work.

Most people may not be beaten by brutal failures one after another, but rather by mediocre life. When you are young, if you say that you have no ideals, others will say that you are too unambitious. When you reach a certain age, if you are still talking about ideals, others may call you an idiot. Rose's unbearable life wasn't so sinister, she was just fed up with the hypocrisy and pomp. The yearning for fresh air has overwhelmed everything. But in all fairness, what kind of life is perfect? Does Jack enjoy his third class days? Personally, I feel that they are attracted by the qualities of each other that are completely different from their own lives. Like the attraction of Daisy and Fermina in "The Great Gatsby" and "Love in the Time of Cholera," that keeps the soul-absent to death. This kind of attraction may not be complete, but for a crush, it is more than enough.

But I don't want to assume at all what kind of stereotype this love would fall into if Jack hadn't died... Whether it's together or apart, it's actually a stereotype... After all, there's nothing new in love. What really makes people have faith is the decision they make every time they can give up. Jack doesn't have to disguise to find Rose to reveal his heart, and Rose doesn't have to give up the opportunity to board the lifeboat to find the locked Jack. When people are in those moments, they may or may not realize it is a life-changing decision. Very short, as short as 20 seconds, as short as a blink of an eye, this person will quit forever, the game is over, and there is no chance to fight again. Sometimes, it is fate at work, and sometimes, the cards are in our own hands, but we are not sure when we will play, when we will show our cards, who can be trusted, and who are the bosses. To put it simply, this is a game of trust and courage, if you believe in this person, you should not look back, because when you look back, you will be turned into stone. At this time, do you want to blame the flood beast that punished you? In fact, you should blame your own demons.

After setting sail, people actually have many opportunities to change everything. There are many times to leave this ship and get on another ship. However, some people choose to stay, and some people choose to take you away. When you can't handle it, It was a lack of courage and a lack of time. Life really is anything, until there is a moment when there is a force that makes you feel that you have to. Those decisions are often too difficult, especially when the possibilities are endless. I seldom make promises or swear, but once I say it, I will etch it in my heart, where it will lead us, fate will not betray, but faith and hope will pay off. The same goes for those who give and those who receive.

Titanic quotes

  • [Jack and Rose are cuddling in the back seat of the car]

Jack: [Implying they're about to have sexual intercourse] Are you nervous?

    Rose: No.

[He smiles at her; their fingers intertwining. Rose gently takes Jack's hand and kisses one of his fingers three times. She looks up at him and is silent for a second]

Rose: Put your hands on me, Jack.

[He kisses her and she lies down in the seat, with him on top of her]

  • Irish Little Boy: What are we doing, mommy?

Irish Mommy: [lying to them to prevent them being scared and panicked] We're just waiting, dear. When they're finished putting first class people in the boat, they'll be starting with us. And we ought to be ready, oughtn't we?

    [Irish Girl nods]
