I watched "Heroes of Fire" in summer vacation, and watched "Captain China" on National Day, but I was disappointed and uncomfortable when I came back.
Chinese directors are actually not very good at making disaster films. At least I've watched a few of them, and it's always been like this, I'm always short of breath.
When it comes to disaster films, the first thing that comes to my mind is actually Titanic. In my heart, Titanic was never a romance, but a disaster. What impressed me the most was that the film went into high energy after hitting the iceberg. Cameron used a very delicate technique to capture the human nature of the world.
Naturally, there are passengers on his ship who are yelling at the impending disaster, but that's definitely not the whole story.
Not to mention the civilians in the bottom cabin who are struggling to survive. The ship is about to sink, the mother Rose who is still pretending to be vulgar on the surface, the upstart wife who asks the crew to go back to save lives, the mother and son who doesn't care about the storms and crises outside, the upstart wife who tells the crew to come back Yes, an elderly couple hugging and dying together.
The people on the boat also had completely different reactions, a boat of violin players who were still in chaos but still insisted on playing. The designer who blames himself, the captain who can't do anything, the crew who kills but commits suicide in desperation. Of course, it also includes Rose's husband, who tried his best to escape to save his life. There are many more, I have watched this movie for too long, but these plots are impressive. It's because the director portrayed it well.
Compared with the Titanic, the Chinese captain or the hero of fire is not a success in shaping the characters. Their characters are too flat, too thin, and this is the missing piece. The one that makes you feel like you're missing a breath.
When will Chinese directors learn to use such a different approach to make disaster films? Rather than for everyone, put on Facebook, fix your mind? Shoot good subjects with bright spots, exciting points and tension points. I think this is the progress of domestic films.
Hear thunder in a silent place. Chinese movies, keep going!
