Memento is a bit difficult to write

I probably watched it in mid-November, and I haven't written a review until now. In fact, I find it difficult to write a review for this movie, first because the way the story is narrated is very different, and second, the content of the story is a bit unbelievable. The story is probably clear. The man imagined by the male protagonist who has been talking to the people around him is actually the "mapping" of him and his wife (using the terminology in "Inception" hahaha), it is not the man who raped and killed the male protagonist's wife. Two people, but one person. After the male protagonist's brain was injured, his wife made a bet with her own life in order to wake him up. This is a small story in a big story, and it is quite a pity. Another sad story is the big story. The male protagonist has intermittent amnesia. In order to keep himself alive, he found a reason to keep him alive. Just kill the murderer. But what if he forgets who he is after revenge, why he is here, who he lives for, and why he lives? Therefore, the male protagonist can only destroy the evidence that the murderer has died after taking revenge, and give himself the illusion that "my task has not been completed", so as to find the next "murderer" for revenge. It's not an incomprehensible thing to think about, and moviegoers can only feel regret. Speaking of which, I would like to say two more words, whether it is "Inception" or "Memento" (the reason why I put these two films together is because the two films are from the same director, and in what I tell This aspect is highly similar), and there is a similarity in the plot that the male protagonist is in trouble because of his wife, or the matter itself is caused by his wife. For example, in "Memento", the male protagonist's revenge is for his wife, and the male protagonist's wife in "Inception" has brought difficulties and even fatalities to the inception. In addition, it is difficult for a high-scoring crime movie to escape this "routine", that is, the routine that everything comes from the wife and everything for the wife, that is "The Shawshank Redemption". If the science fiction of Europe and the United States is to save the world, then I may say that Europe and the United States's criminals and the burning brains are "originating from the wife" (hahahahahaha help).

In terms of film structure, I really haven't been exposed to this unique way of storytelling before, so I don't want to spend a lot of time on structure. I saw a comment that it wasn't because of the great story, but because of the editing. This is indeed undeniable. I think there are many things that make up a movie, such as the plot, such as structure, such as the movement of the screen and even the background music. Different pictures and different narration orders The last two pictures and the two narration orders are combined together. The only disadvantage is that it is difficult to find the details of the movie. The advantage is probably to let the audience imagine what happened before (after all, the ending is already known).

About why I rated 4 points. 1 point for groundbreaking film structure and 1 point for slightly down-to-earth stories.

The whole story is divided into twenty-six fragments, the last thirteen fragments are flashbacks, and the first thirteen fragments are shot in color film, and the first thirteen positive narratives are added to the thirteen color plots and turned into black and white films to highlight the style of the documentary. Each of the last thirteen fragments is divided into two halves, and the order is reversed. The black and white fragments sometimes come before the two halves, sometimes in the middle, and sometimes after.

Although I know some routines of spiritual themes, the ending is quite shocking: the future me was misled by the past me! Transient amnesia makes people forget the existence of time, and selective amnesia makes you feel at ease. Think about it, what would you do if you were the protagonist?

Memento quotes

  • Leonard Shelby: When I looked into his eyes I thought I saw recognition. Now I know. You fake it. If you think you're supposed to recognize somebody you, you just pretend. You bluff it to get a pat on the head from the doctors. You bluff it to seem less like a freak.

  • Teddy: So you lie to yourself to be happy. There's nothing wrong with that. We all do it.
