After reading so many movie reviews, let me post my thoughts.

Reasons why the conspiracy theory does not make sense:

1. As a policeman, a person who often investigates cases. A female psychiatrist was held in the male psychiatric building. Why not question such an unreasonable point? Why didn't the doctors and nurses ask "Why does a female patient live in the male patient's building?"

2. Male shoes appear in the female patient's room. Is it normal? unusual. Why not ask? Because of the psychological defense mechanism. Block out any truth that is not good for your illusions.

In response to these two points, even if he was drugged, even if he had hallucinations, the logical thinking of a policeman is still normal, right? A normal policeman can't even notice this? A normal police officer should at least ask the above questions.
This is the key point where I don't think conspiracy theories are valid.

Second, a woman, who escaped from a mental hospital, lives in a cave. How does she live? Hunting by yourself every day? drink sea water?
Even the former soldier has crawled to the scars on his hands. How could she be so thin and wear a knee-length skirt to climb into the hole unscathed?
Either this is a fanciful person, or it is an arranged person. In short, it will not be the one who really escaped. I'm more inclined to fantasize because it doesn't make sense to have this female fugitive appear in the hole.

As for
the water glass of the female patient who was questioned in the back. That woman was originally insane, and it was "normal" that she didn't pick up the water glass to drink water. You can call it a hallucination of the male protagonist. Does not affect the development of the plot. So this argument is pointless.

In the end, I think he still thinks he is a policeman, but he compromised his identity as a "patient". He's not well. Or maybe he's okay, but he can't accept his crime. He decided to lose his memory.

As for the "assistant" "attending physician". He will not be brainwashed.

Because if he was to be brainwashed into a "doctor", wouldn't he have to give him an office? Wouldn't it be faster to brainwash directly into a patient? At least brainwashing into a bodyguard in white is much easier. It's all about protecting him and documenting his condition anyway.

Shutter Island quotes

  • Dr. Jeremiah Naehring: You both served overseas, huh?

Chuck Aule: It's not much of a stretch, Doc. For all you know, we're both paper pushers over there.

Dr. Jeremiah Naehring: No, you are not. - Since the schoolyard, neither of you has ever walked away from a physical conflict. No, no, not because you enjoyed it, but because retreat isn't something you consider an option.

Chuck Aule: We weren't raised to run, Doc.

Dr. Jeremiah Naehring: Ah, yes. Raised. And who raised you, Marshal?

    Teddy Daniels: Me? Wolves.

[Dr. Naehring and Dr. Cawley laugh again]

Dr. Jeremiah Naehring: Very impressive defense mechanisms.

  • Rachel 2: You're smarter than you look, Marshal. That's probably not a good thing.
