Addition and Subtraction in "Infernal Affairs"
Watching "Infernal Affairs", I always think about "Infernal Affairs".
Why should I re-watch "Infernal Affairs", because it is regrettable to re-watch "Infernal Affairs", I want to see if Martin Scorsese's remake is better. result,……
The 151-minute "Infernal Affairs" has far more plots than the 101-minute/97-minute "Infernal Affairs". For example, to go undercover, a good student of the police academy, Chen Yongyan (played by Tony Leung), is duty-bound, and the same good student of the police academy, Billy (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), has no choice but to have his Irish origin at the bottom as the original sin . This strengthens Billy's undercover motivation. (This discussion is limited to "Infernal Affairs" and "Infernal Affairs", and does not involve the second plot of "Infernal Affairs")
The above are good additions and bad ones. The thief Frank (Jack Nicholson) is equivalent to Han Chen of "Infernal Affairs", but with the hidden identity of an FBI informant. This is a new setting that can reshape the plot. Unfortunately, it has played a role in the film that destroys more than construction. On the positive side, it gave Colin (Matt Damon, equivalent to Liu Jianming in "Infernal Affairs") a reason to rebel; on the negative side, the excitement of a confrontation between two undercover agents was eliminated.
The corner of Huang Zhicheng in "Infernal Affairs" also made an addition, and Martin Scorsese divided him into three, exactly one point and two point five. Huang Zhicheng's role is replaced by Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin (look at him now, think of the "Saturday Night Live" grandmaster) and Mark Wahlberg. Saying "2.5" is because the character played by Mark Wahlberg is also responsible for the final realization of "justice". The role structure is far less concise than "Infernal Affairs", and it destroys the dual symmetry of Chen Yongren and Liu Jianming with Huang Zhicheng and Han Chen.
"Infernal Affairs" also does subtraction. For example, to downplay Colin's "I want to be a good person" mentality, he removed Frank for self-protection, which is undoubtedly more rational. "Infernal Affairs" can't be handled like this. Apart from the differences in the film's values, Han Chen has no informant setting, so Liu Jianming can't worry about being betrayed by Han Chen. This also reflects the difference in the judicial system between the two places. In Hollywood movies and TV dramas, accusation and defense transactions are everywhere.
Colin actually does addition and then subtraction, and there are examples of subtraction and addition. "Infernal Affairs" combines the roles of Liu Jianming's girlfriend and a psychiatrist, and then deduces the love triangle of Billy-psychologist-Colin. This is also a new setting that can reshape the plot. Unfortunately, the damage is greater than the construction. It is estimated to cater to the market.
No matter how you add or subtract, "Infernal Affairs" has not solved the big problem inherited from "Infernal Affairs" - the key to the whole film turning into a climax. I remember it was written in the novel "The Godfather" that no matter how fierce the mafia was, it had to be "obedient" in front of an ordinary police officer, because harming law enforcement officers was tantamount to challenging law enforcement agencies (to the effect). Not to mention throwing a high-ranking law enforcement officer down the stairs after beating it up is a blatant declaration of war on law enforcement agencies. Under normal circumstances, which thief would be so crazy? Unless there is enough grievances ahead; otherwise, there is only a dead fish and a net to break the road behind. In the second part of "Infernal Affairs" and the novel "Infernal Affairs", we have realized this problem and made some remedies.
The story structure of "Infernal Affairs" is excellent, with "good guys" dressed as "bad guys", "bad guys" dressed as "good guys", and "good guys" and "bad guys" for decades. "Infernal Affairs" will definitely be remade again.
