They're both Angie!The copied person not only has his body but also all of Angie's thoughts!
So the replicator didn't realize he was a clone at all, because he kept all the memories from before the clone!
This also explains the panic that the duplicant had before being shot to death, because he thought he was the real one!
So there is no truth or falsehood, just that the dead body is pitiful. It was actually Angie himself who drowned every time!
