Don't think about whether it's worth it

Unlike most of my friends, I don't really like war movies. To put it bluntly, I didn't really catch a cold on it before. Often I don't understand why their interest is multiplied when they mention works related to war.

This film completely changed my opinion, and from it, I slowly learned to discover human nature from war films.

The reason that initially attracted me to watch this film was naturally its praised reputation. Although it missed the best picture Oscar in 1998, it won unanimous praise from critics and audiences alike. After watching this film, the World War II veterans Call it the most authentic and shocking WWII movie ever made.

So, with the feeling of looking up to the mountains, I started this special viewing process.

When the film ended, my chest was thicker than it had ever been. This is not only the enrichment and pleasure of watching a good film, but also the thought, shock, and lingering reverberation in the middle, which is thought-provoking.

I have heard people say that a person's innermost humanity is best reflected in war. This reminds me of an old Chinese saying: when disaster strikes, one must fly separately. Think it is. People who are used to living peacefully and peacefully have long since lost the sense of panic and crisis during war, and naturally they will not spend too much time exploring the good and evil of human nature in the state of war.

However, when it is naked and presented to you in a shocking and intuitive way, how are we going to face it?

Fortunately, Spielberg is always an old boy with a childlike innocence. It is impossible for people with such a warm fairy tale to lose faith in this world. Even as a Jew, his shocking "Schindler's List" is still about a person's redemption, and the ending still gives people Hopefully, even the struggling Nazi officer finally lets go of the Jewish maid he likes but resists. Therefore, with naivety, he can restore the tragic nature of war and portray all kinds of human nature in war, but he will never be as desperate as Kubrick's portrayal of the world so that you dare not look directly. He will always give you hope after intense anxiety and painful choices, make you appreciate life, and make you cherish life.

As the theme of this film, eight people go to save one person, something like this might not happen on a real battlefield. But they still did it without hesitation, in order not to let an old and frail mother experience the terrible news that all her sons were killed in the war. This kind of fiction full of humanity has actually touched people's hearts for a long time, so that we will not be too demanding about whether it conforms to history and other issues. This is the genius of the director, turning the visible into the invisible, the illusory into the real.

I don't want to go into too much detail about the shocking D-Day bombings of the first 20 minutes. Everyone has done too many compliments and comments, and I know that no matter what kind of words I try to restore, it seems so pale compared to Spielberg's lens language. I still remember Lieutenant Miller's stunned moment when he first arrived on the shore and the silence around him for a moment, his swaying dizzy eyes looking around at the tragic scene. It can no longer be described with shock, and my mind may be blank - unacceptable! ! They who were still in peace a moment ago actually came to hell at this time! This was the scene that struck me the most, because it was the first time I put myself on the battlefield and the immersive feeling of being there was blood and flesh all around. The landing scene at the beginning reminded me of the confrontation between the police and the bandits in "The Wire", and the same reality quickly pulled the audience into the atmosphere. The urgency of the rhythm infected everyone.

People who have seen this film may pay more attention to the sniper who is always on the move and his signature move before each attack: kiss the cross on his chest. It's really fascinating, but this is Si's mythical description of the war, and the magnification of the war legend, so he still did not escape the fate of death in the end - it is impossible for people to change the outcome of the war by themselves.
Remember the soldier who died first? In order to save a little girl he didn't know, he was shot and killed, and he had never considered the question of whether it was worth it before. In his opinion, this may be close to an instinct, an instinct of kindness, even if the cost is life.

Remember the German they let go? In the end, what was the desolate look in his eyes when he was killed by him? This is war, is there no so-called mercy?

I am afraid that everyone will cry in fear when the soldier hides on the stairs, and his comrades are almost killed by the enemy, and they are almost angry! In our eyes, he is cowardly and almost shameless. In his own eyes, he may also hate himself, because it was not until such a critical moment that we and himself could penetrate his heart so clearly at the same time.
This is war. There are despicable and noble, cowardly and resolute. Only a strong contrast can reveal human nature more profoundly. This makes us think: what is the deepest thing that we usually hide beneath our comfort? How would you behave in the face of war? This is a very scary question for you, because sometimes I find myself feeling underwhelmed!

Ryan, the young soldier who earned eight lives, did not disappoint. The just and brave man is also experiencing pain and struggle in his heart. Not only the pain of losing his brother, but also the guilt and gratitude for the soldiers who sacrificed to save him back. He can't turn anything around because everyone has done everything they can for him, no matter the cost. What he did was not to retreat immediately to protect himself, but to stay and fight with these hot-blooded men. This is not recklessness, but a responsibility above life. All he can do is to remind himself to live well and meaningfully at any moment in the future, not only for himself, but also for the eight loyal souls living in his heart. This will be the driving force throughout his life. Until his gray hair, he would still be moved to tears by these motivations and his own perseverance.

In the end, when Lieutenant Miller lay there helplessly, shooting the enemy tanks one by one, I could not even see a trace of despair in his dying eyes. He persevered until the very last moment, and that perseverance often worked wonders.

The roar of tank explosions and the roar of planes over the sky was a hopeful start.

In fact, miracles are not just myths in movies, just like the Shawshank Redemption tells us: Never give up hope. It is a miracle to be able to do this.

Every war is an absurd drama

Spielberg is really amazing. In fact, I don't like war movies, I think it's only suitable for boys. But this movie is also very exciting for girls. The wonderful actual battle scenes are not computer design. A question worthy of everyone’s consideration is whether so many people should risk saving one person. I think this also reflects human rights and human nature. And the cowardice, death, forgiveness and so on faced in the war. Patience will be moved.

Saving Private Ryan quotes

  • Corporal Upham: [Wade lying down, shivering with pain and anguish, after being shot through the stomach] Tell us what to do... tell us how to fix you.

Captain Miller: What can we do Wade? Tell us what to do.

Medic Wade: [Wade still shivering] I could use some... I could use a little Morphine.

Captain Miller: [Capt. Miller to Sergeant Horvath] Okay... Give it to him... Give it him!

  • Private Ryan: Uh sir? Where am I to be during all this?

Captain Miller: No more than two feet away from me. And that's not negotiable.
