It is said that the movie Inception comes from the idea of director Nolan, from his curiosity about dreams, and distinguishes dreams into different levels with different sense of time passing. Including:
reality: sleeping → first floor: rainy city → second floor: hotel → third floor: snow mountain fortress → fourth floor: city →
the first point worth noting in the chaos setting: it is with the increase of stratum , the sense of the passage of time changes. Originally, the first layer was 10 minutes equal to 1 minute in real life, and then changed to 100 minutes equal to 1 minute in real life... and then gradually increased; and the state of the "dreamer" on the upper layer changed, it would The most classic thing that affects the dream content of the next layer is that when the car on the first layer falls, the gravity of the second layer directly changes.
The reason why I find it interesting is that in the field of research, "sleep" was first divided into different stages, including stages one, two, three, four, and "rapid eye movement sleep". With the deepening of the sleep stage, the individual (that is, us) perception of external information will gradually weaken. In stage 1 or 2, you may feel sleepy instead of sleepy, and you seem to hear some outside world in a trance. sound, but after stage three, it will be as if the computer screen is turned off, and you will no longer feel like you hear the sound. In addition, the change of the state of the dreamer will indeed affect the content of the dream. Maybe everyone has had a similar experience. When they first fell asleep, they would dream of falling from a tall building or stairs, and suddenly there would be a "feeling of weightlessness". In fact, that's because when we transition from waking to sleep, the body suddenly relaxes, affecting the content of the dream.
The second point I noticed is the changes in "consciousness" reflected at different levels. As mentioned in the movie, at the stage of chaos, the "subconscious mind" dominates.
In the study, it was also found that "rapid eye movement sleep", this stage is often called "dream period". The content of dreams in this stage is particularly illogical. Some researchers believe that this stage is related to the subconscious. After waking the individual, asking the individual about the content of the dream often reflects the "dreamer"'s recent stress or negative emotions, but it manifests in a different way in the dream. Our sleep at night usually takes 90 minutes as a cycle. Rapid eye movement sleep usually occurs in the second half of the cycle, which is similar to the timing of the "chaos" in the movie, and is dominated by the "subconscious mind".
These settings make me feel more interesting when watching the movie. Of course, there are more things worth discussing in the movie, including the setting of "KICK", which I also like very much, and it is worth watching this movie again and again.
