Cancer is a central aspect of the show. The male protagonist, Lao Bai, has a unique skill. He should have been famous and rich, but he didn't want to live a life of obscurity. Middle school chemistry teacher, meager salary, and a part-time job as a cashier in a car wash. Occasionally, he was forced to wash his car by his boss and his students took photos. Life at this time is full of depression and grievances, but for the sake of his family, Lao Bai can continue to be wronged and seek perfection. However, one day, Lao Bai ushered in an important milestone, that is, cancer. For ordinary families, cancer is simply a huge disaster, both physically and financially, facing extremely difficult challenges. But for Lao Bai, this may be a gift.
According to Lao Bai's character and ability, such an obscure life should not belong to him. But after all, with a family, especially with that slightly disabled child, it is impossible for Lao Bai to have the opportunity to show his grand plans. But what if you have cancer? Facing the threat of death, the lion who had been sleeping in Lao Bai's heart for a long time finally woke up. Anyway, he's going to die, so why not toss him? From being timid and fearful at the very beginning, he almost swallowed a gun and committed suicide, and later he could kill people without blinking an eye. Rather than saying that Lao Bai is degenerating, it is better to say that the will to power within him is awakening. After several seasons, he wandered between life and death several times, and saved his life several times. I couldn't help but make me sweat for him from time to time.
But then, I started to dislike him. Since the cancer got better, Lao Bai has no reason to toss anymore. He smashed his fist against the wall angrily, so that his hands were covered in blood. Originally, he could find an excuse to make money for the family, so as to share his wife's future housing loan, the cost of his son's college education, and the family's basic living expenses, but what reason is there now? He didn't want to give up. He needs to deceive himself.
There are two characters in the play that I admire very much. The first is the uncle fried chicken, and the second is the science otaku. why? Because they are very pure people, they all make no secret of their inner desires, even if they can't tell others, at least they are sincere to themselves. Although they were all defeated by Lao Bai, at least they lived very clearly. But Lao Bai is different. After the cancer is cured, he has 10,000 chances to stop, but he has none, so that the fans are questioning him later. Is this really for the family?
The reason why cancer is the core of the show is because Lao Bai finally has a chance to face death. Camus once said: The only philosophical question worth thinking about is suicide. A person has to think about whether his life is worth dying for. If he doesn't dare to die for it, then this kind of life is not worth living at all. Even though most of us are living unworthy lives, comforting ourselves that the ordinary is precious. But Lao Bai had a chance to think about it. Facing death, he knew very well how his life was, but his cancer got better again. When the death crisis is removed, all his lies should be exposed, and Lao Bai still chooses to deceive himself.
All this makes me think, what will I do when one day I know death is coming? Will I still do that when death doesn't come the next day?
