So far, of the American TV shows I've watched, my favorite is Game of Thrones. The plot is rich and exciting, and the characters are numerous and distinct. There are intrigues, there is love and hate, there are dragons that breathe fire, and there are White Walkers with blue eyes. In addition to the story itself, the film crew also showed great shooting skills, and now, I will choose a few examples from the first season to talk about why I say this film is very well made.
Good steel is used on the blade
The film is notoriously expensive, but the film crew actually saves a lot of money. In the battle between the wolf family and the lion family, there have always been only pre-war and post-war shots, and no wartime shots. For example, in the battle of the lion family to annihilate the wolf family's 2,000 soldiers, after the little devil launched his pre-war mobilization, he was stunned by a flying hammer before he even went to the battlefield. After waking up, the battle is over. Then the director used the little devil's mouth to ask the question the audience wanted to ask: Is the fight over? Who's winning? etc. The plot progresses harmoniously. Then, the wolf family caught James, and only presented the ending. There was no battle scene, but it was passed in one sentence.
Through the appropriate character perspective and editing methods, the plot progressed smoothly, the audience did not feel that the film was broken, and the crew also saved a lot of money. Compared with the "big scene" that only knows to stimulate the audience's adrenaline, a brilliant director can use the money where it is most needed, so as to achieve the effect of four or two thousand pounds.
Introduction of background information
This drama is based on a novel, and many of the background plots are not known to the "drama watching party". So, how to convey this necessary information? The best way is character dialogue. For example, the relationship between Littlefinger and Catelyn, the wolf mother, was said by Littlefinger when she directed the work of the two prostitutes under her. From this, the audience knew that Mother Wolf first fell in love with Father Wolf's brother, and Littlefinger liked Mother Wolf, so he fought with Father Wolf's brother, and ended up with a scar on his body. Later, the wolf father's brother died, and the wolf mother fell in love with the wolf father. These important background information was finished in the moans of the two prostitutes, avoiding the suspicion of "forcible explanation", and with a cold sense of humor. Just imagine, if you were only asked to watch a prostitute familiar with the business, you would think it was a pornographic film; if you were only asked to listen to Littlefinger tell a story to a prostitute, you would feel abrupt and blunt. And when the two are combined, it's full of fun and makes you laugh.
Compared with subtitles and narration, character dialogue is more infectious. Moreover, Littlefinger's role is to be good at strategy, so he did not forget to throw some golden sentences in the dialogue to consolidate his image.
Character appearance and shaping
In this play, there are many characters and complex relationships. It is very important to draw out these characters and clarify their relationships within a limited time. This requires a line that can string together many characters. For example, in the play, the director used the line of "martial arts competition", which led to the magic mountain and the knight of flowers. In the process of the competition, the relationship between the characters is introduced and the image of the characters is shown, letting the audience know that the Hound and the Magic Mountain are brothers, the origin of the scar on the Hound's face, the comradeship between Renly and the Knight of Hundred Flowers, the cruelty of the Magic Mountain, the kindness of the Hound, Shan Sarah is childish. In just a few minutes, the information density is so high and there is no moisture, the audience naturally does not want to miss even a second.
Epilogue
This drama can be popular all over the world, and it must be supported by superb shooting skills. The above three points are just my feelings as an ordinary audience and an outsider, to express my admiration and love for this drama. If you laugh at it, please laugh it off.
