[EEO Film Review] There are no good people, no bad people

EEO film critic Jiao Jian has a saying that The Dark Knight can be used as an icon - before The Dark Knight, and after The Dark Knight. And it's not just for the "Batman" franchise that's been going on for more than a decade. The entire comic-style hero movie can be used to divide the era.
Because of the emergence of "The Dark Knight", the characters in comic hero movies are no longer simple.
Gotham City, an imaginary city. How much helplessness is there? Rachel says to Batman, as long as Gotham doesn't need you anymore, I'll come back to you. It's a pity that evil is endless, and they can never wait for this day; Batman hopes to make legal justice the real enforcer of Gotham City, and he can "retire" because of this, but unfortunately, violence in reality is always more than the law. Powerful, even if justice has not disappeared, it is already "late"; Prosecutor Harvey believes in law and justice, and believes that he can use his own strength to quell evil, but it is a pity that no matter how hard he is, he is facing the boundless darkness. There is also the danger of being destroyed.
Compared with films like Iron Man in the general period, "The Dark Knight" clearly has created enough real and powerful characters. The reason why the whole film is successful is because it is all sadness from the beginning to the end. In a life without hope, the reason why people can survive is just because it is less painful. In order to avoid greater pain, such a city with a dark tone continued to be maintained.
Batman, an unsung hero dancing in shackles. Although he has always been puzzled, and although he has always hoped that he will not continue to take responsibility, in the end, he still put on that mask and silently assumed it.
Harvey Bett, a prosecutor who thinks he is human enough and strong enough to be just and invincible, still hasn't gotten out of the "seven deadly sins" vicious circle in the end.
Rachel was unceremoniously called by a domestic movie magazine: "I never imagined that she is such a little old lady-like heroine, how could two handsome guys be jealous of her?" In terms of appearance, She does, but does this also represent such a kind of woman struggling in love? Who is she in love with? Is it Batman, or is it Totten?
The most impressive character is the villain, the Joker.
He is not a simple villain. This is a much more complex character than the villains in previous Batman movies.
He is not a simple-minded brutalist scientist psychopath, a military militant, but just an unfortunate child from the most corner of the grassroots family. He has acquired the ability, out of nowhere, to be able to fight Batman to the death without losing.
He should be regarded as a very successful anti-social character created in recent years. He fundamentally criticized such a society:
he is not greedy for money. When so many people were still fighting for money, he poured oil on the money he had stolen and burned it. So what was the reason for his crime? He just wanted to tell Batman that this society can't be as pure as you might think.
Why?
This system is screwed up. It has created too many social imbalances between the rich and the poor, too many children have no way to ask for a normal life at all, and their alcoholic and prostitute parents will open their mouths twice after drinking, just because -Why don't you laugh? Or, their parents will say to their kids after they've had a blast on their own - try it. Not that all problems are caused by social problems, but it is certainly a big part of the cause.
This is where the biggest pair of ironies in The Dark Knight emerges: that the super-rich Batman can spend a lot of money developing equipment, and the child born in the dark corner has only to use his own evil wisdom. Where is the problem? And do you really appreciate Batman so much that you have no other emotions than hatred for the Joker?
There is no pure good person who is completely flawless, and there is no bad person who is completely unworthy of sympathy.

The Dark Knight quotes

  • The Joker: [in the interrogation room] I want... my phone call. I want it. I want it! I want my phone call!

    Detective Stephens: That's nice.

The Joker: How many of your friends have I killed?

Detective Stephens: I'm a twenty-year man. I can tell the difference between punks who need a little lesson in manners, and the freaks like you who just enjoy it.

    [pause]

Detective Stephens: And you've killed six of my friends.

    The Joker: [mouths "six?"]

  • The Joker: [after a news segment, holds camera facing himself] See, this is how crazy Batman's made Gotham! If you want order in Gotham, Batman must take off his mask and turn himself in. Oh, and every day he doesn't, people will die, starting tonight. I'm a man of my word.

    [laughs]
