Ordinary beautiful, beautiful ordinary.

When I saw a movie clip by chance, I was directly attracted by this style of painting. Simple and unique lines, shades of color, and the retro British atmosphere overflowed from the screen.

Ernest's clean purplish red and yellow milk-delivery trolley, the glass bottles in the small iron frame grid are scattered and regular, I can imagine the sound of them clapping. During World War II, the night was dark and war roared, but the garden was always clear the next day, as if the eternal green, still bright. Whether it is morning light, sunset, or sunset, the beautiful pictures in the movie are reluctant to watch. Perhaps the warmth in winter and the clearness in summer, and the harmony between Feng Xie and Luan, are the deepest feelings the family brings to Raymond Briggs.

The broadcast on the radio seems to be the era of ups and downs that we have been following. Simple and ordinary little things will eventually form a long life, which will be buried in the past, or aftertaste, or forgotten.

To the universe, we are like ants. Then enjoy the life of a good ant.

yours, sincerely.

Ethel & Ernest quotes

  • Ethel Briggs: I could have married a deep-sea diver.

Ernest Briggs: Well, why didn't ya?

Ethel Briggs: Because I didn't love him.

  • [first lines]

Raymond Briggs: [voice over] There was nothing extraordinary about my Mum and Dad, nothing dramatic, no divorce or anything, but they were my parents and I wanted to remember them by doing a picture book. It's a bit odd really, having a book about my parents up there in the best seller list among all the football heroes and cookbooks. They'd be proud of that, I suppose, or rather probably embarrassed too. I'd imagine they'd say, "It wasn't like that," or, "How can you talk about that?" Well, I have, and this is their story.
