A sea of yellow has given Korean filmmakers a lot of creative space. The fate of the Korean people across the sea seems to always involve the hearts of Koreans, so there are many films about the fate of the country and the nation. Mist is probably the same. As the 2014 Korean Olympic bid film, in addition to the above main lines, the meaning of the sea fog is probably the captain's love for the fishing boat Advance due to incompetence.
Cheol-soo was born for that sea, and his fate is closely linked to the fishing boat called the Advance and all the crew of the Advance. The film does not explain whether he has children of his own, but his only wife is cheating with other men in his own home and under the eyes of Cheol-soo. Surprisingly, Cheol-soo, who has caught his wife, seems to have nothing to do with it. Seeing that, not only was he not angry, but he was quite calm, and he also threw away his hard-earned money from the sea for his wife. Such a reaction is simply not what a normal man can do.
The hardships of going to sea and the hardships of life made the young crew find a way to release their physical stress, that is, find a call girl on board to meet their sexual needs. These, Cheol-soo is completely repelled, nothing is more important than the boat, and doing these things on the boat is absolutely impossible, find a woman, then go anywhere off the boat.
The Asian financial crisis in 1998 spread to South Korea, as well as the fishing boat industry, and even endangered Cheol-soo, the captain of the Advance. This man who regarded the ship as his own life repaired his "own" ship in order to earn money, and also for the sake of everyone. The crew members have a future, and one person takes the risk to transport the Korean stowaways from China. However, what Zhezhu did not expect is that the accident still happened. The crew members, who have always been regarded as family members, have their own small calculations, and kill each other with suspicion and murder for their own interests and a woman. Only Cheol-soo kills people to cover up the crime and save the Progress.
At the end of the film, Cheol-soo, who never gave up, threw heavy equipment to lose weight for the ship in vain, and saved his beloved alone, but he could not understand until his death, why Dong-sik, the most favored youngest, was because of a Strange women to fight against him, not to save the Advance on which they depended for their existence. In desperation, as the sea fog slowly dissipated, he let go and sank into the sea with the Advance, which might be his best choice.
