It might be better to be empty

I was looking forward to 1942 before, and I read it almost for the first time.
But after reading it, I felt that many expectations were all hanging in the air.

On the one hand, it is probably because there are so many things the movie wants to express.
The group of people who escaped from the famine alone, the various class changes, interpersonal changes, and changes in human nature caused by the fugitives, are enough to make a big drama.
This is not enough, we have to try all kinds of rescue methods, religion, money, government, media... Every kind of rescue can create a big drama.
How hard is it to tell so much in one movie?

At least "1942" can't be considered very well, and many things are just to stop, I don't even think it's better not to.
For example, the line between Zhang Hanyu and Robbins really feels a bit masquerading.
In one scene, a mass was given to the rich man who escaped from the famine, but the rich man still couldn't close his eyes after finishing it.
In the next scene, the cannonball hit, and the little girl was interrupted. She couldn't get the bible to paste it, and finally the blood-stained bible flew all over the sky.
In the last scene, Zhang Hanyu found Robbins and cried, saying that he could no longer believe in God.
In just three episodes, the redemptive meaning of religion in the disaster was completely denied, and it disappeared on the road to escape.
How deep is such processing?
Not only does it have no deep meaning, but it is also deliberately symbolized—the blood-stained Bible is flying all over the sky. Is the subjective orientation so obvious?
In fact, obviously it doesn't matter, if the front is enough, it may not be able to support it. But what moving deeds Zhang Hanyu did in his missionary work and what sacrifices he made, I have no impression after reading it.

A lot of the processing of this film gives me the feeling that most of the plot and even the details have very direct allusions, and they almost pointed at the nose and told me, this place, what I want to express; that place , how the plot will turn sharply.
Occasionally, it's acceptable to come here twice; but after finishing it all the way, I feel that this film is so full, and it's densely packed with the key points and all the points.
Think about it too, there are so many things to talk about, isn’t it easy to worry that people won’t understand? Waiting for certain emotions and certain relationships to slowly ferment in various details, I'm afraid it will be even more difficult.
So, speaking professionally, there seems to be a lot less dramatic tension. In terms of feeling, I feel that it is too real. It may be better to be empty and talk less.
In the whole film, the only thing that made my heart skip a beat was that before Xu Fan sold himself, he told Zhang Mo, who had only been married for one night, that we should change our pants, my cotton pants are more loose.
Because Xu Fan has already made it very clear why he wants to sell himself, this parting stroke does not have such a direct meaning. Doing it or not doing it has no effect on the development of the plot, but it just makes people feel uncomfortable.

On the other hand, I always felt that the film seemed to go into a state of numbness too quickly. There should be some problems with the actor's performance (at least most of the actors don't show the progressive sense of suffering very clearly), but more probably because of the director's grasp of the shooting. Miserable, more miserable, who is more miserable than who... A lot of times, it seems that the plot is just moving, and many things outside the plot seem to be in a state of straightforward description all the time.

However, despite all the complaints, I still think this movie should be watched.
At least, I can still feel that the director is serious about making this movie.
In China, there are never too many films that seriously express suffering, but too few.
Especially after the film came out, various debates about the flood disaster began to appear. Many of the arguments and arguments were seen for the first time, and a hundred schools of thought contended fiercely. I thought it would be better to take a look. It is not a bad thing to learn more about the perspectives of interpreting history.
