Analyse from character. Lu Gang reminds me of Yang Jia, or Yang Jia reminds me of Lu Gang. They are both from Beijing. Although they have had different experiences in life, they feel that they have similar personalities. Yang Jia likes to participate in netizen activities and travel; and Lu Gang also likes to make friends, and often calls his classmates to come for dinner at home (of course, whether the classmates like him or not is another matter). That is to say, although they all end up on a dead end similar to "killing demons", based on experience, we would think that they are all the kind of people who are withdrawn, not social, and extremely introverted. But it isn't, or at least it doesn't appear to be. Perhaps, their loneliness is only known to them, and perhaps it is because of this inherent loneliness that they are so eager to communicate with others. "Liu Xing", played by Liu Ye in the film, is a typical nerd who reads a book. He is neurotic on the whole, not articulate, and is not good at or likes to communicate with people. This is an assumed treatment. The director exaggerated the part of Liu Xing as an abnormal person and ignored the part of him as a normal person. We can recall the final murder process by Yang Jia and Lu Gang. They were both thoughtful and very calm in their actions. The bullets and knives were aimed at the key points. It can be seen that their psychological quality is actually relatively strong. Although they have personality defects, they are not the kind of defects that can be seen at a glance. In daily life, they should and almost certainly are not much different from normal people. . Quirks? Maybe they have. For example, Yang Jia is very sensitive to some very small bad habits of others, and Lu Gang is very concerned about "fairness", even if it is as small as a dollar. But what about this? These character traits are not directly linked to their final murder.
Of course, it is not stated in the film that the only reason Liu Xing finally took this road is his own character flaws, but it seems that it is difficult to have any other explanation. First of all, Liu Ye's performance is too superficial and too shallow. Of course, this is mainly a director's problem. Specifically, the expressions are too exaggerated, more like a play than a movie. Therefore, when Liu Ye compares with Meryl Streep in the film, the judgement is not on the same level at all. Second, the plot is very unclear and inaccurate. The latter is also because the film is completely more form than content. Let's just talk about this "dark matter". After watching the film, I am still at a loss as to the subject of Liu Xing's research. Maybe things in this field are really esoteric and difficult to understand, but because "this theory can't be explained to you, and even if it is explained, you won't understand it". This subject studied by Liu Xing is not only the core of the film, but also the core of the murder case. If you don't have a general understanding of his theories and viewpoints, how can you understand him and his motives and psychology for the final murder? Moreover, we not only know nothing about the concept of "dark matter", but also have no way of understanding why Liu Xing's mentor is not interested in his subject and does not support him. Because of this, the line of environmental factors that caused Lu Gang's murder was also broken for the audience. We can imagine what the film would be like if there was no explanation of game theory in the movie A Beautiful Mind, and whether it would resonate with us. Although the theory of game theory is much simpler than "dark matter".
According to Taoism, we have feelings for something because we lack understanding of it. With full understanding, there can be no emotion. Therefore, we must "transform emotion with reason, and follow reason with emotion". Later, Wang Bi put forward a different point of view. He said: "Fu Ming is enough to seek the secluded and extremely subtle, but not to the nature of nature. The amount of Yanzi, the foreshadowing of the father of Confucius. However, there is no joy in encounters, and there is no such thing as mourning. Sad. I often narrow people down and think that they can’t follow reason with emotion. Now I know that nature is inexorable.” Although Wang Bi believed that emotion is the nature of nature, he did not completely deny that “reform emotion with reason and obey emotion with emotion.” "Li", but the meaning of "hua" is slightly different. Since emotion is the nature of nature, we can use our understanding of things to guide emotion, rather than digest it completely. Although people have feelings, they are not tired of being emotional. It can be seen that the reason is still in the first place. If we don't fully understand a thing, and we have emotions, then emotions are vain. That's what "Dark Matter" is like. It doesn't explain people and things clearly, so it's unreasonable, and how can it be reasonable? I even feel that the director himself did not think clearly about this "ideal" - at least his thinking was not completely convincing to the audience - he gave his own subjective emotions to the shots, characters, including music. What are those psychological description shots of the protagonist's stream of consciousness, those tragic picture compositions, and the five-part structure of "gold, wood, water, fire and soil"? Wouldn't it be more reasonable to explain things clearly and to portray the characters fully, and then do these things? Moreover, the soundtrack of the film is really out of tune, especially those Chinese folk songs, which feel like two skins of sound and picture.
There are a lot of stories in the text materials I have read about the Lu Gang incident, but none of the films have been selected, and although those stories may not necessarily give us a better understanding of Lu Gang, at least these bits and pieces are strung together. Together, it can guide the viewer to a deeper level; these stories may not directly lead the viewer to draw any conclusions, but at least they can trigger more and richer thinking, but we have not seen it. The director discarded these and created another fictional character, Meryl Streep. Although Meryl Streep's acting skills are absolutely invincible, they are somewhat sloppy, and I don't see how necessary it is. At least she has too many scenes, you can delete some. There are also some plays where Liu Xing's parents are far away in Beijing, which are irrelevant. This kind of space transformation seems very routine and stereotyped.
In short, I watched the movie "Dark Matter" with high expectations, but I felt rather disappointed. I was calm from start to finish without any inner turmoil. This is not because I have reached the realm of "a saint who has the form of a man, but no love", but because the film did not give me more understanding and new understanding of the Lu Gang incident. I used to yearn for the ruthless realm of Taoism, but then I gradually realized that it is impossible for people to be ruthless. No matter how much we understand things, feelings always arise naturally. If it doesn't work, let him go. Maybe one day I'll pick up a knife and do something when I'm in a hurry. Of course, the probability of this is too low. My so-called love, at most, is to cry and laugh when watching a movie. If you look good, write it a thousand words, and aftertaste it; if you are unhappy, you also write a thousand words to vent. The rationale may be biased, the words may be extreme, it doesn't matter, just don't pretend to be B.
