"The Greyhound": Sleepless in the North Atlantic

I have always wanted to keep this well-known naval battle movie in the cinema to watch, but I have been waiting for a year after it was released, and I haven't heard the news of the introduction of mainland cinemas, so I can only watch it!

There is no tortuous plot laying, no deep reflection on the war, a simple encounter between the Allied fleet and the German submarine at sea, which constitutes the entire plot of this war film from beginning to end.

The background of World War II and the identity of the new captain of the protagonist were quickly explained at the beginning of the film. The audience, along with the crew of the destroyer, plunged into the icy waves and emptied the cold North Atlantic to meet the thrilling naval battles.

When the two powers meet, the brave wins. The warship between the ship and the submarine day and night, fighting wits and courage, a life-and-death duel can't stop amid the rushing music!

The scene of the German U-shaped submarine besieging the Allied destroyer is extremely rare on the big screen. What is even more rare is that the underwater ghost-like submarine surfaced out of the sea and fired on the destroyer head-on.

In the extremely cold temperature, the waves condensed into ice on the hull. However, the captain and crew in the battle had no time to warm up, eat, or rest, and were forced to cope with waves of attacks from the enemy.

This is a life-and-death contest between the will and physical strength, experience and intelligence, reaction and determination of the commanders and soldiers of the ship/ship. Ice sea!

The rhythm of the battle between life and death finally appeared for a few minutes to breathe. The captain led the crew to use these precious minutes to hold a brief but solemn sea burial for the sacrifice of his colleagues, which became the most touching thing in the whole film. The bridge of people's hearts!

I really like a scene in the film:

On the dark sea, the destroyer desperately avoided torpedo attacks from the enemy, while firing the ship's artillery. The rain-like tracer tore open the night sky, roaring at the enemy submarine whose direction is difficult to distinguish...

The lens began to rise slowly from the sea surface, pulled higher and higher, and gradually moved away from the battlefield to the top of the clouds. The sound of gunfire at sea was almost inaudible. Only the indefinite flash of light penetrated the clouds and was faintly visible...

At this moment, above the quiet clouds in the night sky of the North Atlantic, dazzling aurora is wrapped around, like a death man’s cloak, flying silently, standing in the void, waiting for an opportunity to move, waiting for life to be harvested....

Most of the time, the camera focused on the face of the destroyer captain played by Tom Hanks, and captured the entire process of commanding the crew to fight.

The first time I became a captain, I was in an extremely fierce and dangerous death battle. The calmness, sadness, hesitation, anxiety, and even fleeting panic in the character's expression...Through the exquisite and delicate acting performance of Tom Hanks, you can see clearly.

The facial expression changes of this veteran actor can definitely stand the test of the camera!

A well-made excellent naval battle film, highly recommended!
