I haven't seen many movies, but my favorite is a Korean movie called "August Photo Studio." This is a very lifelike movie. Maybe not as a movie. real feelings. It might be happening right around us. forever. A terminally ill man He owns a small "August Photo Studio." There. He wants to spend the rest of his life here. He still works like a normal person every day, taking or developing photos for customers and bringing them satisfied smiles. Such a life gave him some comfort, temporarily forgetting his own destiny.
Among the customers coming and going, Yongyuan met a girl named Delin, who was a traffic cop. Due to her occupation, she often came to the "August Photo Studio" to print photos of illegally parked vehicles. Yongyuan's repeated appearances gradually added a touch of happiness and expectation to Yongyuan's bleak life. Different from Yongyuan's satisfaction and happiness after fulfilling the customer's request, Delin brought him the beautiful emotions that existed in his inner world and germinated late. From conversations in the photo studio, to encounters on the street, and later playing in the playground together, running wildly on the playground, telling jokes on the way home... God arranged their stories. In the plain and warm scenes, inadvertently, a happy little flower is quietly blooming.
But this did not stop the footsteps of death. Yongyuan still has his own sadness and fear. He invited his friends out to get drunk and wanted to use alcohol to relieve his worries. But after walking out of the bar, he still couldn't forget his tragedy. In the night. weeping in front of friends. Wanton weeping like a child. In the rainy night of thunder, Yongyuan tossed and turned and couldn't sleep, and then quietly hid in his father's bed.
His father had never been able to use a video recorder, and Yongyuan began to teach him how to operate it very patiently, but his father could not learn it. His son finally got angry and turned around and left the house. In fact, Yongyuan was afraid that after he passed away, my father would be unable to accomplish some things in his daily life. For Yong Won, who wants to go one step ahead of his father, he has infinite love and nostalgia for his father. Yong Won does not want to leave relatives and friends. and Delin. In another world, only I will be lonely.
Yongyuan still came to the "August Photo Gallery" on time every day to work. At first, he received a family, took a family photo of them, and then, at the request of the family, took a special photo of the elderly grandma alone. The expression of the old man in front of the camera was a little unnatural... But that night, just when the "August Photo Studio" was about to close, the old grandma who came to take pictures during the day came to Yongyuan alone in the pouring rain. She told him that she was getting old and she was afraid that she would suddenly leave one day, so she hoped that he could take another photo of her as a posthumous photo. Young-won was a little surprised, then agreed. The grandmother combed for a while in front of the mirror, then sat on the chair in front of the camera. The old man Yong Won saw on the camera was so serene, with a slight smile on his face. He pressed the shutter, "click"...
Yongyuan's body was getting worse and worse. He often thinks of Dereen, but he only takes her to heart. Even when he was lying on the hospital bed dreaming of her and smiling uncontrollably, his sister asked him what dream he had and who else he wanted to meet. He buried that story deep in his heart.
One day, Yong Won came to a roadside cafe alone and quietly. Sit in a window seat. He inadvertently looked out the window, and happened to see Delin and colleagues on the roadside on official business. With his fingertips, he gently touched Dereen's back on the glass. He never told her about his terminal illness, let alone that he loved her deeply. He was afraid that instead of bringing her complete happiness, he would only bring her endless pain. Therefore, Yongyuan is determined to seal this love in his heart as the most beautiful memory of his life. But he couldn't guess that when he saw Delin this time, it was actually a goodbye...
Yongyuan thought that it was time to take a photo of himself. At this time, his heart was no longer fearful and sad, but silent as water. Recalling the picture of the grandmother who took the posthumous photo smiling peacefully in front of the camera, he also showed a relieved smile at the last moment of his life. Soon, Yongyuan's portrait, with a smile in his calmness, was hung on the wall.
"August Photo Studio" has not opened for a long time. Delin came again and again, and waited again and again. I'm waiting for that familiar face to appear. Waiting is loneliness. Until one day, when Yongyuan's father went to the photo studio to sort out Yongyuan's relics, Delin understood everything. Young-won’s father hands her a box. It was Yongyuan who asked him to give it to her. There is a picture of her in the box. There is one more letter.
Looking at these words, Delin felt as if Yong Yuan was speaking softly. The last sentence of the letter is forever sealed deep in Delin's heart, just as Yong Won buried his love for her well. I know love fades like old pictures. And you are always beautiful in my heart. Thank you. Bye-bye. A light story will stay in that moment forever. The pace of the whole film is very slow. It looks bland. In many scenes, there is no dialogue. Only the inner expressions of the characters remain. maybe simply. It may be complicated.
Yong Won is an ordinary man. All his feelings are condensed in old photos. The window of the "August Photo Studio" is full of yellowed memories: photos of first love, girlfriends, family photos, photos of friends, and finally, the photo of Delin with a sweet smile. Yongyuan's life is enriched by Delin's appearance. Without her, his life is incomplete. He needs love. Even if it's just love fireworks. However, love, this farewell is destined to be heavy and abnormal.
Yongyuan's heart is constantly struggling. In the face of the woman he loves, in order not to hurt her, he has been trying his best to control himself without confessing. Not expressing itself is a pain. He quietly buried this affection within himself. This is a movie about love and death. No hugs or kisses. Nor is there the heavy thrashing of death coming. It was as if life went on so peacefully. And it has continued to do so. I really like the last sentence of that letter Yong Won wrote to Delin. Dull reality Emotions bloom silently. It seems that at this moment, love can make the tears that have accumulated in each other's hearts for a long time. Whoever it is, should live happily with hope. We will wait for love and happiness.
