hard times or the cruelty of life

Every time I watch a film by Korean director Kim Ki-duk, I am stimulated. There are too many extreme depressions and negative breaths in his films, whether it is the desperate self-mutilation of the dumb girl in the drifting room, the contradictory revenge of the male protagonist mixed with hatred and deep love in the bad boy, or the decisive revenge in this film. As a result, the director shattered our hopes little by little, and the beauty was once lacking. He is so unobtrusive and cruel, and the fate of people is like a children's game, so that I had hallucinations for a time - as if I was reading Yu Hua's novel, the thrilling description and the calm tone are exactly the same.

Inheriting the consistent style of Kim Ki-duk, the film is full of cruel and unbearable pain. So long after watching this film, I was reluctant to put it on DVD and play it again, because I knew that after watching it, another despair would overwhelm me. It is really despair, and it is only after watching the movie that you will understand what real despair is.

At the beginning of the film, a little boy is making a toy gun, the camera is smooth and the music is natural. He aimed the gun at the can on the little girl's head, the gun rang, but the little girl squatted down with her right eye covered.

At the beginning of the film, the camera is aimed at the American soldiers stationed in South Korea, and the title of the film is a red mark on a camouflage uniform: "Address Unknown". This all seems to imply that the story will be inextricably linked to the military.

The story takes place in the fall of 1970, in a small village near the US military base in South Korea.

.

Shang Wu is the child of a black US military stationed in South Korea and a local woman. He and his mother live in a car left by the US military. He inherited his father's skin color, which made him stand out from the crowd in the local area. Shangwu also became violent as he grew older, and often beat his mother to vent his anguish and shouts.

When washing his face in the morning, his mother took a picture of him. He angrily threw the whole basin of water over it. Of course he was angry, because he knew that his mother had photographed him to send to his father—years after year his mother would send letters to the United States, but the letters were always returned because the address was unknown. But my mother stubbornly refused to give up. Seeing that he could not catch his mother, Shang Wu put on his clothes and went to find work.

The girl Wu Le, that is, the little girl with the injured eye at the beginning, her eye was accidentally injured by her brother. The physical defect caused her psychological shadow, and she always blocked the injured eye with her hair. She has a surly personality, and her relationship with the puppy is deeper than that of her family.

In the early morning, Wu Le saw that his mother was giving the teddy bear an eye. He thought that his mother was laughing at her on purpose, so he kicked the toy away angrily.

On the way, she met Shang Wu and Eun Wu, who was bullied by two gangsters. One of the gangsters arched En Wu into the ditch, then walked away with a smile, Shang Wu pulled En Wu, Wu Le saw everything, did not speak, and walked forward. The three of them walked on the road in the countryside, silent.

En Wu worked in a gallery. One day, he saw Wu Le looking into the gallery, so he took a portrait of her to give to her. As a result, when he finally mustered up the courage to hand over the painting to Wu Le. After seeing it, Wu Le tore up the painting angrily and gave him a slap in the face. En Wu squatted down and finished the painting in a daze. Wu Le in the painting has a pair of bright eyes.

Shang Wu's daily job is to help his mother's lover, a dog killer. The "dog killer" was very vicious to him, and he was even more vicious and ruthless when it came to killing dogs. Every morning, Shang Wu would curl up in the cage behind the "dog-killing" motorcycle and go with him to catch the dog. After returning, a massacre began: first the dog was lifted high, and then he started hitting with a baseball bat. Every time he faced the bat that the "dog killer" handed him to try, Shang Wu would turn his head.

Shang Wu returned home with the resentment that he had been scolded by the "dog killer", but on the way he met his mother arguing with others. The reason was that the lady of the grocery store refused to buy anything for her English-speaking mother. The mother said, "I'm going to America." The

proprietress coaxed her out. Shang Wu pushed aside the crowd watching the excitement, and dragged his embarrassing mother's hair home without saying a word. It is conceivable that it is another punch. Mother curled up in the corner of the bed, "You were very obedient when you were young..." Shang Wu threatened to shut her up, and then slammed out the door angrily.

The mother hung up the curtains, and then clutched the quilt and cried sadly, all of which were seen by En Wu from a distance. The "dog killer" came to his mother and was furious when he saw her appearance. He was about to teach Shang Wu a lesson. The mother said to him like a mother beast protecting her cubs, "If you dare to beat him, I can't spare you!"

In the evening, En Wu came to Wu Le's window, poked a hole in the window paper, and began to peep. He saw Wu Le change into pajamas and play intimately with the puppy. Only when he was with the puppy did Wu Le act like a normal girl like her peers. However, Eun Wu found that she was different from other girls. He saw Wu Le put the puppy in his nightgown... The

two thugs came to bully Eun Wu again. They stole Eun Wu's money and forcibly stayed Yellow magazines bought from GIs in exchange. Shang Wu looked at the magazine and raised his eyebrows, "Have you ever seen a woman who takes off her clothes?" In the

evening, En Wu brought Shang Wu to Wu Le's window, Shang Wu waited impatiently,

"I'm bored, didn't take off~"

En Wu Cong Xiaodong peeked and saw Wu Le changing clothes, Shang Wu from the past, two people fighting for me, Wu Le heard the movement. Wu Le looked out and saw two hands that were punching—they were hilariously guessing their order outside. Shang Wu won, but as soon as he put his eyes close, he was stabbed in the eye by Wu Le's outstretched knife, and the two fled in a hurry. After the separation, En Wu sat on the vegetable field and peeked at pornographic magazines, and Wu Le came out from behind: "Does it look good?" En Wu was taken aback.

Those two thugs (strange, how come they are everywhere???) passed by, they had evil thoughts, they gang-raped Wu Le, Ren Enwu cried and struggled outside, still couldn't save his beloved girl and escaped The fate of bad luck, he was pressed to the ground, and Wu Le walked away as if he had lost his soul.

The enraged En Wu made a gun, and waited for the only way for the gangster to take revenge. Who knew that the gun rang, but it was himself who squatted with his right eye covered. It turned out that he had mistaken the direction of the ballistics.

Then there was a very intriguing scene. Three teenagers were walking along the country road in a row, and all of them injured their right eyes. The three of them carried the pain of the outside world, each had their own concerns, and remained silent.

Wu Le heard that the U.S. military hospital could heal her eyes, and began to want to approach a complaining U.S. soldier. The American soldier couldn't stand the boring military life and began to pay attention to Wu Le.

The "dog killer" found fault and asked Shang Wu to beat the dog. After Shang Wu refused, he was beaten. He couldn't bear to break free from the "dog killer" and fled in panic.

But where can he go? He lingered at the door of a shipping factory and ultimately failed to ask for a job. There was no way, in the end Shang Wu returned to the "dog killer" and let him beat and kick. In order to stay, Shang Wu killed his first dog.

En Wu's grandfather sold the family's big dog to the "dog killer". When Shang Wu and the "dog killer" came to fetch the dog, they happened to meet En Wu who came home.

Shang Wu saw En Wu's reluctant eyes, he begged to "kill the dog", "Can you not kill this one, because it is a friend's dog", but was ruthlessly rejected by the "dog killer". Shang Wu secretly released Eun Wu's dog, and the big dog ran away after being shot by the "dog killer". Another good fight. The "dog killer" handcuffed Shang Wu to his motorcycle after beating him up. Shang Wu took off the tire while he was sleeping and ran away.

It was the same shipping factory. Shang Wu helped people for a day's work, but he refused to ask for wages for himself. The foreman who paid the wages glanced at him and turned away.

Shang Wu returned home, tired and wronged, and finally cried sadly. He looked at the photo taken with his parents when he was a child. He once tore up the photo, but his mother patiently pasted it. The mother came back, and in order to hide the embarrassment, Shang Wu pushed his mother away and rushed out the door.

When Wu Le was pregnant, her mother took her to the gynecology department for an abortion, and the school expelled her. Wu Le began to give up on herself, and in order to cure her eyes, she began to be with Da Bing. En Wu ran to Wu Le and said that he didn’t mind Wu Le’s appearance. Wu Le lifted his hair and revealed his injured eyes, "Are you sure you can face me like this for a lifetime? Are you sure you can endure me like this for a lifetime?" En Wu was silent. Wu Le pushed him away sadly and got into the soldier's car.

Wu Le's eyes were healed, but when she and En Wu met on the road, En Wu avoided her and walked away.

When Wu Le's eyes were hurt, they could love each other, but when her eyes were healed, they couldn't communicate.

Although Da Bing met Wu Le's material requirements, he regarded Wu Le as a personal toy like a child. He beat Wu Le, forced her to eat marijuana, and then asked her for forgiveness. When he was about to leave South Korea, he asked for a tattoo on Wu Le's chest. Wu Le finally couldn't bear it anymore, and stabbed the once healed eye again, and gave the American soldier his kindness.

Shang Wu was wronged in the factory. He left in anger. On the way back, he saw his mother arguing with others for stealing vegetables. He grabbed her mother, carried it home, and beat her. En Wu arrived and opened Shang Wu.

The "dog killer" came, saw his girlfriend being beaten, found Shang Wu without saying a word, beat him up, and walked away.

Shang Wu, who was full of grief and anger, found the "dog killer" who was shooting dogs for fun, and killed him with the method of killing dogs.

As the person who found the "dog-killer" corpse lamented, "the dog-killer actually died of the method of killing the dog", Shang Wu intended to let the "dog-killer" feel the animals he killed before they died How cruel is this method of execution, how ironic is this method of death!

After killing the "dog killer", Shang Wu returned home and suddenly became very gentle to his mother. He boiled the water, bathed her mother, hugged her tightly, and then took out a knife, he wanted to cut off his father's legacy The tattoo on his mother's chest, the one that has always brought him shame.

The water in the basin gradually turned blood red. Shang Wu wrapped his mother up and held her to repent of what he had done to his mother, "Mom, please forgive me... I also want to live a good life with you..."

Shang Wu In this way, he chose his own end. He rode a "dog-killing" motorcycle and rushed into the rice field, thus ending his young life. In the gray sky, a military plane whizzed past.

The mother searched for her son like crazy, and finally found her son's body on a snowy winter day. Eun Wu also saw it. He rushed up crying, but Shang Wu's mother did not allow anyone to approach her son.

She shut herself in the house and ignored anyone.

The gangster stole En Wu's money again, but because of the uneven distribution of the stolen goods, he was arrested by the police. En Wu looked at everything coldly, and his heart was full of hatred.

Eun Woo was thrown into jail for shooting the American soldier, but that was only part of his plan. He used the wire he brought into the prison to kill the gangster who had been bullying him, but he failed in the end. In prison, Wu Le came to visit En Wu, En Wu opened Wu Le's hair and saw that her eyes were the same as before, he cried, both of them cried, two young people who were supposed to be in the sunshine , but became extremely vicissitudes between looking at each other.

Shang Wu's mother lit the whole car with gasoline and left this world with her son.

Eun Wu, who was sitting in the police car, saw that the car was on fire. He asked to stop it. After being refused, he began to force the police to stop. The police pulled out their pistols.

When the gunshots rang out, I just felt that everything sank, not even the last bit of hope was left, the director was so cruel that not even the last bit of hope was left for us. I don't know if the reality is so cruel, so cruel that I don't want to accept it.

The story doesn't end here. Mother Shangwu finally got the reply she wanted. It drifted into the hands of an American soldier who was conducting a military exercise with the wind. The camera was aimed at the soldier who was reading the letter. The sound also diminished a little bit. This may be the last bit of light that reality has left us, but I only know that the hope of reality has drifted in the wind with the reply that came too late, and it will never return...

Three gloomy and silent teenagers . One is violent and frantic because he is ashamed of his life experience, and often beats his mother, the other is withdrawn due to an accident when he was young, blinded in one eye, and the other has no physical disability or shameful experience, but is cowardly by nature. people slaughter. The director focuses his perspective on these three seemingly different, inner but divine-like characters, who constantly walk alone, meet, help each other, and love each other, bringing us step by step to that special political and geographical background, in that cruel and indifferent. In the world, people caught in the fate of the characters cannot extricate themselves.

The world is undoubtedly not in line with their ideals, and life is not destined to be in line with their ideals. They struggle hard in reality, forcing themselves to satisfy others. The world is too vast for them, they can walk but can't find the direction, the world is too narrow for them, they work hard, but they can't find the space to breathe, although their bodies are close to maturity, in the world of adults They stumbled and stumbled, and their heads were bloodied.

This is probably Kim Ki-duk's most ambitious work. It's not because he's going to win any awards, but because he's trying to convey too many messages to us in just two hours. This movie loaded with youth, politics, war, and nationality is really a bit too heavy.

It makes the audience, like me, feel that the cruel fate is like the plane whizzing past in the film, and it is full of threats at any time. Lamenting the fragility of life and the difficulty of current affairs.

Of course, aside from the heavy theme of the film, the film's performance in editing, music, and art is quite good, especially in a dim and hopeless environment that the director deliberately created.

The second is the use of animals. In the subtitle at the beginning of the film, it is stated that no animals were harmed in the filming of this film. It is conceivable how serious animal cruelty scenes will be in the film. All these reflect the ruthlessness of human beings cruel.

It is mentioned that there is also a cute cross-cutting shot: when the "dog killer" killed the black dog for the first time and carried it into the house, the cute black dog was still holding its tail high~
