Although the major films in recent years have not been well received, I still watched Hu Mei's new work, Confucius, for Yu Wei of "Yongzheng Dynasty". It's a pity that this has become another "Yongzheng Dynasty" or "Han Wu Emperor", so disappointment is also expected. It is estimated that the director's original intention was to let Confucius go to the world, so he chose a way that is more acceptable to the people of the world to express Confucius, although at the end of the film, Confucius is about to become Laozi.

I think the main points of failure are as follows:

First, the expression of the Analects is too straightforward. Propaganda of the Analects is of course a good thing, but please distinguish the occasion. Most of the words in the Analects can be seen from Confucius when he is alone or with a few students. It is a kind of inner monologue. However, the film is used many times as a dialogue, and the Analects of Confucius is used as a small strip for a debate competition, which makes Confucius have a kind of posturing embarrassment.

Second, the grasp of Confucius failed to highlight the ideological nature. Confucius became an entrepreneur, doer, and statesman. Are these important? Thoughts are either not mentioned, or they are directly appealed. What is going on in the screenwriter's mind? Compared with other people, archery is not like doing arithmetic problems and driving? I forgot, if you ride too well and become a professional, you won't be able to compete in the Olympics. Confucius's philosophy of life hardly mentions that he is only a great man for the country and the people, and he doesn't understand what "a big bowl is cool and fast".

Third, for the setting of Confucius' image, it's not cute. Not only Confucius, but everyone. This is similar to the Fuwa of the Beijing Olympics. Can't fault it, but it's just not cute. To show Zilu's recklessness is that others drink from a bowl, and he drinks from a bucket. Didn't he just finish learning etiquette and forget it so quickly? Chow Yun-fat also said next to him, "I'm greedy for cups!" Yes, although Jingjiu is good, don't be greedy for cups. This is how Confucius's humorous cells are reflected. The director himself probably couldn't understand the joy of "floating in the sea" and "no material".

Fourth, the plot setting is grandiose and nonsense. It is very difficult for Confucius to play the two roles of Lin Xiangru and Zhang Fei in Jiagu Huimeng. Yan Hui died while climbing the snow-capped mountains on the Long March. That's all, he actually pretended to see Nanzi, and made a bunch of sexual innuendos according to Zhou Xun's legs. Zhou Xun was not simple. He played Nanzi exactly the same as Zhang Ziyi in "The Banquet", and took revenge.

Fifth, Chen Jianbin reads his lines like he is drunk and dizzy.

Of course, there is still something to be said for this film. For example, letting Ren Quan play Yan Hui, the Yan Hui in my mind is such a gentle person, but it is too small. Another example is the ending song "You Lan Cao", although a few notes from "Yu Yu" are used at the beginning, it still sounds pretty good. If I were to shoot, I would rather not do a big production, let go of the constraints and pretensions of a big country, and shoot Confucius as an optimistic old man who has experienced ups and downs, "The shopkeeper! Hey! The shopkeeper! Come on...two bowls... Two more bowls!"
