The balance of love and desire, intimacy and mystery

Watching the movie reminded me of a TED talk called "Secrets to Desire for a Long-Term Partner" that conveyed the same theme as the movie.

The speech mentioned that love needs a sense of closeness, and sexual desire needs a sense of distance. Love is intimacy, safety, reliability, trust, dependability, and the need for permanence. The place that provides the thick and secure experience we need is what we call "home." And sexual desire needs stimulation and surprise, as well as unknown, uncertain, mysterious, possessive, wild and other qualities. There is always a strong desire for novelty, mystery, danger, risk, and the unknown, the unexpected, and the surprise. Love and desire are a pair of contradictory bodies, and in the development of a benign relationship, this pair of contradictory bodies will also experience some processes of ups and downs. Sexuality comes from a range of emotions that are not all love: jealousy, possessiveness, offense, power, dominance, playfulness, mischief, etc. Therefore, the father-in-law in the film will think that cheating can make his wife feel a sense of crisis, and make the relationship between the two full of interest because of the sense of crisis. There will inevitably be times when lovers wish they were the more controlling party in the relationship. That's why the father-in-law gets angry when he learns that his wife is also cheating.

In the early days of love, the mysterious part dominates, and the exploration of the other person makes the desire exciting. After entering the marriage, the so-called love becomes family affection, and the passion gradually disappears.

A good marriage requires a balance of intimacy and mystery.

The father-in-law's philosophy of life in the film is that derailment can create a sense of mystery and distance, and the male protagonist also finds his original passion after the distance.

And the ultimate goal of marriage is to always maintain the passion for the same person, what a difficult proposition!
