A thread running through the film is Nicholas' gratitude to the villagers who raised him. In order to express his gratitude to the villagers, on the night of December 24th every year, he puts the wooden toys he carved by himself at the door of every household. Year by year, Nicholas' carpentry work became more and more exquisite, children grew up one after another, and Nicholas made more and more toys. On the night of December 24th of a certain year, Nicholas disappeared from his cabin. In the expectation of the Ada family of three, he drove a reindeer sleigh, carrying a huge gift bag, and suddenly appeared from the clouds. He shouted and waved to them with joy, and flew to the little village that was silent in the snow...
The power of love worked wonders, made Santa Claus.
Finland, the country where dreams can be weaved under the thick white snow, is the hometown of Santa Claus. Perhaps this land across the Arctic Circle is too cold, and we find from the film that, for the most part, people's expressions of emotion are calm. Whether it was the villagers' meeting to agree on Nicholas's upbringing, or the unexpected gift Nicholas had placed outside the door, they were not surprised or overjoyed. But under that calm exterior, hidden a warm heart. Even Lisakki, the seemingly crazy and ruthless carpenter, is actually kind and great. He adopted Nicholas when the villagers could no longer support him, taught him the craft of carpentry, and eventually left him with his entire life savings.
Sometimes an end is not a sure end. Just like at the beginning of the film, Nicholas' parents took their baby sister to see a doctor on a snowy night and died in an ice cave. For Nicholas, the family bond was over. But this is not the end, because a warmer family relationship began in the village. This love continued in the way Nicholas gave thanksgiving gifts, and gradually spread mysteriously among the children, evolving into an annual wait for Santa Claus. The magic of love spread from this small village to the whole world and forever.
On every Christmas Eve today, when children from all over the world are looking forward to Santa Claus, thinking of the little woodcut animals that young Nicholas silently placed in front of every door at night, who can say that it is just a What about a fabled legend?
