Handy Research | Where is the Buddha in "Right Now"?

I watched Hong Changxiu's "Right Now, Wrong Then" two days ago. It is still the director's usual daily perspective. The two possibilities of a relationship are very subtle.

But what attracted me the most in the movie was actually a scene where a golden Buddha stood beside the hostess' house.

As a huge Buddhist fan, I couldn't help but explore the question of "Where is this Buddha?"

Solving this problem is actually very simple, the first is positioning. According to the plot, the film takes place in the city of Suwon, less than 40 kilometers south of Seoul.

In addition to the well-known scenic spot "Suwon Hwaseong Fortress" in the movie, there is actually a landmark that is easily overlooked - 수원화성홍보관 (Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Hongbao Hall, that is, the Publicity Center).

In the second story, we can find that on the way to the studio, the male director and the female painter happened to pass by this building, and we can see the sign on the wall.

Let's click on the map in Google Street View, and the front of the building looks like this, facing due north.

In the movie, the hero and heroine later ran to the rooftop to smoke. The opposite of the building where the studio is located is the Hongbao Pavilion, so it can be known that the two are facing south.

From this, it can be judged that the location of the male and female protagonists is likely to be this small building.

In this episode, the heroine once pointed to the distant mountain, said that it was her home, and mentioned the nearby Buddha statue.

So we logged on to Google Maps, first found the small building where the two of them were, and then searched according to the southwest direction pointed by the hostess, and soon we could find the only Buddhist temple here: 대승원 (Dacheng Temple).

According to the plot, the heroine's home is next to this temple.

(The film is a night scene, in order to see clearly we brighten the picture)

So we searched further on Google Maps, and found the prototype of the hostess's house through Street View, and also found the location of the Buddha statue.

From this, it is determined that the Buddha that appears in the movie is the Maitreya Buddha in the Mahayana Temple of Padazan.

In fact, the Buddha statue itself is not particularly high. The original Buddha is 12 meters high, and the height of the halo is 19 meters. There is still a big gap from the giant Buddha.

However, the interlacing with the houses still produces a strange visual experience under the lens. Moreover, this Buddha was originally a bronze statue, but in 1999 it was changed to a gold Buddha statue, which also increased the impact on the senses.

What is it like to have a big Buddha next to your home? In the film, the heroine said, "The big and strange can relax my heart and have the feeling of protecting me."

However, some friends around me said that with such a Buddha here, I might be too scared to go home...

above.
