1. Buffett was born with a sensitivity to numbers and a high IQ.
2. He has a deep understanding of the power of compound interest. Here is a little story.
There is an ancient legend in India: King Shekhan intends to reward the inventor of chess, Prime Minister Sissa Ban Dayir. The king asked him what he wanted, and he said to the king, "Your Majesty, please give me one grain of wheat on the first cell of this chessboard, two grains in the second cell, and two grains in the third cell. Give 4 squares, and each square will be doubled from the previous square. Please give all the 64 squares of wheat on the chessboard to your servants!" The king felt that this was too much of a request. When it was easy to be satisfied, he commanded these grains of wheat to be given to him. When people moved bags of wheat to start counting, the king discovered that even bringing all the grains of wheat from all over India or even the whole world would not satisfy the prime minister's request.
Buffett thinks this story is a good illustration of the power of compound interest.
