"Call of the Sun" is based on Lee Badug's fantasy series "Grisha" trilogy and "The Crow Six". Netflix wisely combined the two works from the same overhead world. The "Grisha" series is essentially a combination of youth novels with female protagonists and magical novels. Although the characterization is relatively successful, the plot is relatively monotonous. Basically, the heroine Alina is growing up and falling in love while having a strong magical power. In the process, after adding the plot of the "Eleven Arhats"-style "Crows of Six", the Crow Gang composed of Katz, Jasper, and Inesh made people shine, enriching the extension and complexity of the plot. The parallel narrative of the two lines (of course also merged into one in the end) also enhances the conflict and visibility of the drama. At the same time, the series added discrimination and persecution involving ethnic groups, such as the discrimination against the female protagonist Shuhan by the Rafkas, the hunting of "Grisha" by the witch hunters; the erosion of magical power by scientific progress, such as bullets and gunpowder. The emergence of "Grisha" makes it more and more likely to be killed, and magic is declining in the face of science; Silafka's long-term isolation from the east has led to an independent tendency, and politicians even want to assassinate Alina to prevent the unification of the two sides. These elements make the series not only entertaining, but also increase the depth of the story and the heaviness of the theme. The expressive and appealing story of "Grisha" Nina and Matthias, the witch hunter of Feyoda, killed and fell in love surpassed the emotional experience of the heroine Alina and Mar’s childhood sweetheart.
In terms of characters, although the oriental mixed-race face of the heroine played by Li Mei is not compatible with the Slavic style of novels and dramas, it is still pleasing to the eye after reading more. The "Dark Lord" General Kelligan played by Ben Barnes is tall and handsome, dressed in black, very close to the image in the novel.
On the whole, the first season is outstanding in terms of stories, characters and special effects. It can be recognized by the original party and can also catch the attention of non-original party audiences. If this production level can be maintained, the second and third seasons It is looking forward to.
