--Comment on "Haeundae"
"Haeundae" is a disaster film, but it may be far-fetched to say that it is a disaster film after watching the film. Much of the film's narrative has no direct connection to the disaster. Even if the disaster time takes up a small proportion of the film, it still leaves a deep impression on the audience.
The disaster film "Haeundae" is really different from other disaster films. It is somewhat inappropriate to say that it is the Korean version of "The Day After Tomorrow". The American "The Day After Tomorrow" tells the disaster directly from the beginning of the film, and this disaster runs through the whole film. Before "Haeundae", most of the disasters that will happen are only briefly mentioned, and there is no focus on the disasters. It was not until this disaster came, that is, when the tsunami really hit Haeundae from the sea, that the disaster was directly displayed in front of the audience. From this point of view, there is still a clear difference between "Haeundae" and "The Day After Tomorrow". When it comes to why "Haeundae" is called the Korean version of "The Day After Tomorrow", I think it's because the use of computer stunts in "Haeundae" is somewhat similar to that of "The Day After Tomorrow", or it uses the same level of stunts. A tsunami tens of meters high rushed over from the sea and directly hit the high-rise buildings of Haeundae and thousands of tourists and local people. The use of computer stunts in "Haeundae" is really successful. Seeing the tsunami coming from this shot, the visual impact it brings to the audience is really powerful.
Haeundae is a very beautiful place and the people there live happily. Thousands of tourists go there to enjoy the sun and the feeling of the beach. Its destruction was related to natural disasters, but the incompetence of local ministers caused so much damage. Professionals told him to be prepared in advance, but he did not believe there was a disaster. Because of his delay, the thousands of tourists and local people in Haeundae were not safely transferred in time. Thinking of a film "Dolphin Bay" I watched a few days ago, there is such a message in the film: 23,000 dolphins are killed every year in Taidi City, so the killing of dolphins is also directly related to local government officials. of. Natural disasters are inevitable, but losses caused by disasters can be controlled. Take "Dolphin Bay" and "Haeundae" for example, if the disasters of these two films were taken seriously by the relevant government officials, they would not have caused so much harm. Maybe Haeundae will still be so beautiful after the tsunami, and local people will still have the opportunity to return to their homes.
The tsunami engulfed Haeundae, crashed high-rise buildings, and swept away people. But the film still gave people hope. The red silk handkerchief represents the love between Yanxi and Wanzhi. When the red silk handkerchief flies to the sky, to higher and farther places, it also brings hope and love to more people. After the tsunami, it is a fresh city. A few years later, Haeundae will still have high-rise buildings, thousands of tourists, cheers and laughter...
I mentioned the stunt of "Haeundae" earlier, which is one of the reasons for the success of the film. In addition, the humor in the language screen also made "Haeundae" well received. Sometimes when the audience is sad about something, a picture or a dialogue will make the audience laugh out loud. What I remember the most is the part of Dongchun on the bridge, which really made the audience marvel in laughter. Dongchun searched for Xiuxian and Auntie on the bridge, and then the steel pipe on the bridge and the container in the car that rolled over the bridge fell down beside Dongchun, and it would hit him, but it was so bad. Little by little, the audience wanted to laugh and exclaimed from time to time. Another is that Dongchun accidentally ignited the oil, and then a car exploded. Dongchun ran desperately before the car exploded, but was still thrust into the sea by the powerful propulsion of the explosion. When he finally climbed onto the container, he was pushed into the water by his aunt. The sequence of scenes really doesn't feel like watching a disaster movie, it gives the viewer the feel of a feature or a comedy. This is what differentiates "Haeundae" from other disaster films.
What "Haeundae" wants to show is not just a disaster or a visual and spiritual shock to the audience, it wants to give the society a wake-up call to see our final outcome after ecological destruction. After watching a series of disaster films, such as "The Monster of the Han River", "2012", "The Day After Tomorrow", "Peerless Tribulation", "Haeundae", etc., I think what we should do is to protect the ecology and protect the living earth.
After any disaster (no typo) in a beautiful place, it will turn into ruins, for the beauty of Haeundae, for the beauty of more places, and the beauty of our lives, we should really think about our act!
